There have been many times in my career as a dental assistant, when I would learn something new, whether it was related to health field or learning something new from my peers. I was asked to take bed rest and was advised to not assist as a dental assistant, due to increasing pain in back. Therefore, I had to reconsider about my career planning and development.

In seventh grade I knew I wanted to go to York Tech to do nursing but always had dental in the back of my mind. Although during my third year in high school I realized that nursing is not what I wanted to do anymore. Then, I realized that I always wanted to do dental as well. I definitely thought about how job shadowing might be best first before I start college to make sure this was the right job for me.

I would feel nervous seeing patients because I will not have as much time for cleaning as I did this semester, I would be watched by my instructors very intensely and the patients might become edgy because I will not be as fast as the registered dental hygienist. I understand, that is normal to feel unsure about things in life that might look foreign or new but it is important to stay focused and overcome all the obstacles.
