what he writes. “The name of the virgin is Mary.” On her part she glorified God who has done great things for her and noted, “from now every generation shall call me blessed.” She gave birth to and nurtured Jesus Christ who on the cross handed her over as a mother to his mystical body the Church through the person of John. At the end of her mortal life on earth, she was assumed body and soul to heaven.
Today, we still call her blessed, because it had been ordained from the beginning of time. This book, Our Mother Who Art in Heaven, reflects on the biblical activities of the Mother of God and our Mother and also her apparitions after her assumption into heaven.
In 1585 she appeared to a young virgin girl, Bernadette and told her, “I am the

The title “Our Mother who art in Heaven” is derived from her personal statement to the three shepherd children of Fatima. “I come from Heaven” she told them when question by Lucia, the eldest of the three Fatima visionaries on her mission and where she came from. The first chapter discusses the creation of man and how man lost his glory thereby stood in need of salvation. God had promise to redeem man so chapter two discusses the woman who was chosen by God to bring the Son of God who was to redeem the fallen world. As humanity had been condemned because of the disobedience, everybody was under the original sin. For one to bring the Son of God she had to be specially prepared so chapter three treats the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God. In chapter four I discuss the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many non-Catholics hold the concept that Mary had other children after the birth of Christ and as such could not be said to be ever-virgin. Chapter five discusses Mary as the new Eve, the Mother of the new people of God. The Old Eve like the first Adam disobeyed God but Mary the new Eve obeyed God and that led to the birth of the new people of God. At the annunciation, the angel in addition to telling Mary that she was going to be the Mother of the Messiah also told her that her cousin Elizabeth …show more content…

Her relationship and love of Christ makes her the perfect spiritual mother for Christians, a role she began to fulfill after Jesus was buried and she was no longer the Mother of the Physical Body of Christ. As the Mother of Christ, the woman who said yes to carry God’s son in her womb; Mary proves to be the new Eve, possessing a direct opposite of Eve’s disobedience to God, and become the compliment to Christ as the new Adam on the cross. At the foot of the cross, the new Eve watched her son die for the sins of the world. As depicted in Michelangelo's Pietà, Mary holds her son just as she did in the manger, but “between Bethlehem and Calvary our sins had intervened” (Zia 90). Yet Mary accepted her role as the Mother of God even in his death, and always remained the person who loved Christ the most and the person Christ loved the most, making Mary worthy of the greatest veneration and the woman whose intercession will lead us the closest to

Nicolas Enriquez’s piece titled The Virgin of Guadalupe with the Four Apparitions depicts the Virgin mother Mary as she revealed herself to a newly transformed Christian Native named Juan Diego. This 1773 painting is a reproduction of the 1531believed arheiropoeita of Virgin Mary when she descends on Mount Tepeyac and tells Indian Juan Diego to go inform the bishop that a temple shall be built for her. The Virgin of Guadalupe is an iconic piece of Catholicism in Mexico and holds religious and cultural importance to both Spaniards and the Natives of Mexico, such as the Nahuatl. Enriquez’s painting has several deviations from the original arheiropoetia, such as different color choice and addition of Nahuatl symbols, which portrays his painting

As one can see in the speech given by Sojourner Truth in 1851, “Ain’t I a Woman”, she believes that women’s right and, even more specifically, African American women’s right are extremely important. In her speech presented in Akron, Ohio, she takes many points of her opponents and finds counterclaims to rebut them. She uses points such as how she has been treated compared to how other woman have been treated, the lack of intelligence the men assume she has, and she even poses the question of where Christ came from to rebut one of their points. While addressing these topics she uses a very clever strategy, of taking the arguments against her to make the point of how they would not be relevant. As the reader can see, Truth makes excellent points

Mary was born with grace and free from Original Sin, and Saint Anne and Joachim helped raise Mary to love and be faithful of god and remain sinless. Then at the age of four, Saint Anne and Joachim took Mary to the Temple. Even though this was a promise to God, both parents were distressed to see Mary go. During this time, Saint Anne and her husband remained holy and charitable people.
