Reflection: Week #2
After completing the chapter and discussion for this week, I was able to effectively understand the different types of paintings used throughout history. In addition, I was able to expand my art vocabulary and knowledge by learning the advantages, disadvadegs; and history associated with a majority of the painintings that were found domintley in the past. The vocabulary I learned consisted of the types of art that I didn’t know much about; as well as the different elements of painting that help viewers of art to understand what the artist is trying to potray using a variety of different lines. The paintings discussed in this chapter included fresco, oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, abstract, representational,

This is because, I love how abstract art is made using a variety colors and a variety of materials. In addition, I love how these artists, are able to make their audience think and deeply examine their painting’s; in order for their audience to understand what exactly the painting is potraying, as well as the message, tone and emotions depicted in the work of art. In this week’s discussion we were responsible for explaining our favorite type of art and why. We were also responbile for giving two examples of this paining including information with the style, artist, medium and also the time period it was made. I did this discussion wrong for week 2, by discussing my foavorite type of sculpture from chapter five, when the chapter for week two was 4 which was paintings. I just thought that since Part 1, chapters 1- 3 was assigned for week 1, that week 2 would conist of reading the entire Part 2; similar to what we did the first week of semester. Moving on, as I mentioned earlier my favorite type of painting from chapter 4 was abstract. One of the painings, I emailed my professor, that I really liked was entitled “Untitled” (Trieste). This painting contains a variety of different colored lines that are …show more content…
The dark blue is a long line that starts from the bottom of the paper and touches the top of the paper. The dark blue line is only dark in the center, you can’t see too much of the line at the bottom or top. But, it makes you think from looking at it that it was long and touched the bottom and top. The red line is a curved line attached to the dark blue line, where the color dark blue is easily seen and represented. The green line comes the bottom centerand goes diagnoel to the left. A A majority of the lines being represented in this paining are not thick, but rather have a very thin and narrow consistency; expect for the white short and curved lines. The white lines are located on the left side of this painting in the upper left corner of the paper, these are the most recognizable lines on the painting. Next we have texture, after looking at this paining the texture of this painting reminds me of a crumbled piece of paper because; they both contain a variety of different lines, shapes and textures. Also, because I feel it looks like a crumbled piece of paper flattened out. I feel that if you were to touch this piece of art that it would feel soft and possibly a little rough based on what the author used and
They both seeks freedom from the traditional art’s narrative and description of the literal visual world. Trying to free painting from the limitation of representational association, Wright focus on the juxtaposition and reverberation of pure primary and secondary
The main element of Art in this photograph is Line. From the grass leading up to the front of the church to the boards along the church wall a line forms it all. The line upon the church boards
Yousef Alloughani Dr. Tatiana Sizonenko Art History May 17, 2016 Introduction Among the oldest forms of art are paintings. The earliest paintings date back to 300 B.C.E. where people at the time were accustomed to painting inside caves.
A mix of black and white and every grey in between could be found in each muscle. The combination of dots and dashes that made up the morse code that covered the sculpture transformed into one continual line with tiny dots spread all along it. There are moments here only yours and mine. Tiny dots on an endless timeline. The line connected to a leafless, skeleton of a tree, as if it were a clothes line.
One final takeaway I believed I have learned and continuing to learn is about the struggle between the viewer and the art piece. I never understood what Professor Peers described at the beginning of the year when mentioning how the artwork “pushes back” however, now I understand. The unwillingness of the art piece to
J’Lyrick Woods Writing Assignment #1 AR-170 2-D/3-D 2-D-P.50-Figure 1.4-Mel Bochner, Vertigo This conceptual artist has taken basic elements of art such as lines and color and has created this amazing two dimensional artwork, Vertigo. In this artwork the artist uses regular lines, a rhythm of diagonal lines, and a slight tint of an orange in the background of the actual lines. The different directions, overlapping, and crossing of the lines, help imply the chaos and disorder the artist is trying to reveal through this painting.
Overall, the unity of the painting comes primarily from the visual elements. On the sliding scale from blandness to chaos, this piece falls in the center of the spectrum. The quadrilaterals and the swath of green keep the painting interesting, and the soothing colors and horizontal lines make sure it doesn’t become too chaotic. The quadrilaterals, horizontal and vertical lines, and the analogous color scheme are the primary visual elements that come together to give this piece a feeling of visual
Kahlo used very thin lines to define both the Fridas and aortic valve. This paing had a strong use of implied lines, Frida used implied lines to define the movement and blood flow between the two hearts. She also used them to put influence on the clothing to give them a realistic feel. I didn't see as many shapes as I did line composition. The few shapes I came across throughout the image was an oval and rectangle.
They lead your eyes to the large boat, onward to the bottom, where there are animals boarding it. The lines are also very sharp. They outline the shapes in the painting, giving the shapes a clear border. The next element is shape. The shapes are at very sharp angles.
The lining in the skin makes the painting look more realistic and the lighting brings out the dimensions very well. The lining is overlapping which shows the movement in the painting. The triangle shape begins at the top of Mary’s head and down the back of Jesus contacting to the bottom of her hands and coming around her shoulder. Spacing is very important
Artwork is all around the world, but is it really worth the resources and time for it? In the essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” by Ryhs Southan he discusses the purpose of art and explains the group, Effective Altruism. The main argument is that Effective Altruism do not agree with using resources and time on artwork. Effective Altruism is against artwork the resources, and time it uses up that do not contribute to the poor.
Introduction Visual and performing arts tend to act as separate entities within the field of education; considerably isolated from the majority of academia, these sectors are often considered to be secondary or elective options after completing primary education. The arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education, however, when an institute begins a budgeting process, the arts are rarely considered a top priority. For example, during periods of recession many public schools within the United Stated were forced to cut visual, performing and musical arts programs, despite studies that proved the exposure to the arts to be beneficial for students both academically and in extracurricular activities. Learning in an art-infused environment
This also found on some parts of the chair. Theses conflicting uses of lines give the audience a sense of chaos and confusion in the world around the man. Van Gogh, predominantly known for his color usage also
The line quality in the man’s shirt behind his left arm shows that he is bending his elbow holding something. Another example of line quality would include the woman’s right arm showing that she is bending her elbow as well. Carl Bloch uses value in the painting considering he darkens the outside of the picture and the individuals behind them to show some emphasis on the three individuals sitting at the table. The shapes included in this picture would consist of the “normal” shape of a human and the shape of the cat behind the woman at the table; although, it does
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
