Understanding counselling psychology and the different methods and approach executed by famous counsellors of past and present COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY Introduction This paper is to present a reflection on my understandings of the various ways and methods of counselling psychology and how participating in role plays have allowed me a deeper understanding to the areas of counselling. Counselling is the utilisation of mental health, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioural or systemic interventions, strategies that intend wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology.(American Counselling Association,2015). Reflection of role-plays We were asked to form into groups of three where each person was to be given a role each; counsellor,client and observer. The roles of the client and counsellor are obvious. The role of the observer however is to look and observe whether the counsellor executed said theory properly and also whether he/she performed any mistakes to be noted down for improvement. I have selected two out of all of the role-play sessions because those two particular role-plays gave me feedback that improved my understanding of counselling psychology and how it is not as easy as it seems.
