However, I did learn through my years of schooling that being able to read is key to success in any field of employment. I had a personal drive to be able to understand what I am reading, no matter what it may be such as an article in a magazine, a memo from supervisors or policy and procedures of a company. In my spare time, I would read as much as I could to learn new words. Since I come across words every day that are spoken to me that is not understood, I would research the words to better understand what was being discussed. Still to this day, it has become a habit of mine to read any random piece of writing to ensure my understanding continues to grow.
Competency 5 This year I had a student who was very intelligent but was having reading and writing difficulties. We were having difficulty getting the appropriate placement for him due to how intelligent he is. During a meeting on May 23, 2017 and in emails prior to this conference, I pushed to get him qualified for his one on one continual assistance from a teacher during his writing class time. He really needs the direct help to be able to complete assignments. ICC9S4 Conduct professional activities in compliance with applicable laws and policies Competency 3 I work very hard to follow all guidelines, laws and policies.
Taking WRTG 101 in an online format proved not to be the best solution, because I have always been a face to face, teacher present type of learner, and I am not a computer savvy individual. I began WRTG 101 this semester with minimal writing skills, and after numerous writing assignments and exercises I believe that I am now on my way to
So, I questioned myself, "What it takes to finally be familiar with those rules?" This experience taught me that writing is not the same as speaking and that requires me to have skills that go along with it. Writing this particular assignment about 9/11 as a topic has taught me what is like to deal with writing a research paper in a college-level, for the first time in my senior year. That was for my high school broadcasting class. However, after I gave my paper to my teacher, Mr. Williams, the next day he told me that it still had a lot of errors in it.
Reading this book gave me a great indication on what type of reader I was. Being only a little kid, this book took me weeks to finish. Always procrastinating, and finding ways to get out of it. The type of reader I would describe myself when I first started reading was sluggish. Having this issue, I got put into an “extra help” reading class.
Throughout this semester, I have had many struggle when it came down to doing an assignment for ENC1102. When it comes down to my growth, I have noticed throughout my papers that various struggle I had in the past, are now not as difficult for me. One of the main examples of this is being able to clearly state my thesis. The thesis statement has always been an issue for me because I never really knew how to get my point across clearly through a thesis statement. When doing the proposal, I had to figure out how to properly state my thesis and have it linked into the rest of the paper.
Without reading I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. Throughout the years I have realized that reading has changed my writing skills. From my earlier years to solely writing what my teacher would want, to now actually putting my own point of view and how I feel into my writing. It’s the same as when I am reading a book and I put
It took years of practice, but he finally completed the education he sought. Even though Frederick Douglass and I lived in a different time and were not awarded the same kind of education, we did share some things that I would have never expected. We learned that an education is beneficial to us, a book can change our life, and we can do anything we put our minds to. We both found it was not an easy road to be able to fully read and write and we did struggle. But with time, patience, and determination we both carried out our goals, I learned the joy in reading and found out the benefits to write, and Douglass received his forbidden
I have not come to a full solution to this problem yet, but I did make changes in my life as to how I can manage time management. But this semester, I was able to do much better from last semester, in getting my journals ready on time. With hurdles came hidden strengths I discovered about myself. During the hospital placement, I was challenge in caring for two patients all by myself; at first I was afraid to take up the challenge. But the fear later past, because; this challenge shown me where my skills were weak and needed improvement.
During my first class I had to write a paper in APA format, I was very stressed since I was not use to this format. It took many different tries and help from the writing center to be able to have a proper APA paper. Since that class I have learned that it does not have to be stressful as long as you have an idea of what APA is and you use the resources like the APA manual for references. Along with learning APA style I have been able to expand on my critical thinking abilities. When I read an academic article I know what parts to look at to understand what the authors are studying and wither they found a significant difference or not.
I look back at all the different forms I’ll be writing and how much advancement I’ve have come too. The way I was writing before and after has really upgraded. I would see my work before and after and now am really shocked to see how much I’ve changed. Starting from the very first days in the class doing pre-writing journals, then moving to bigger assignments like doing different essays like the Memoir and analyzing Rhetorical Analysis were a drastic change. Learning certain chapters and lessons my fellow classmates taught us really helped, for example learning
My note taking skills have also further improved as a result of the reading we did for class. In my previous school, writing in the books was something that was frowned upon. We were expected to jot down notes in a notebook, which ended up breaking the flow of the reading and it was more difficult than just highlighting a section and writing a quick note. Because of this rule I did not take notes about the book I was reading very often, thus I did not learn how to properly annotate my books. I now keep character lists in my book as well as highlighting possible foreshadowing, symbols and motifs, and different literary
I calendar my work, create reminders, and sometimes start a list the day before just to ensure I never miss a thing although not all days are perfect. I didn’t share my results with anyone however a few of my colleagues have taken the personality test (Junigan typology assessment) as well. What I learned about myself first, is that I have room for improvement. I don’t have to so precise although this is my very first class in quite some time. I take a lot of time to do simple things from taking notes to creating rough drafts for all of my homework assignments.
The first event was a consistent thing which was teachers correcting my essays . Every time I would receive an essay or an assignment I would always have an error with using the words " their and there" and using the right conjunction words. The problem that I had was when I was younger I wasn 't taught how to use those words. For an example instead of using the word your correctly I would use it "You 're a pretty cool person." When in reality you 're supposed to use it with the word "you 're."
