Name: Gretel Herrera- Martinez Tutor: Blythe Nobleman Course: ENC1102 Date: November 10, 2016 Final Reflection Essay There are many things we can learn as an academic writer. For instance, I have come across some critical academic papers, which need a lot of creativity and thinking. Some of these works touch particular challenges that we face daily in our lives hence we get solutions on how to meet such challenges. One of the challenges we had in this class was how to apply all the knowledge and techniques we have learned during the semester. Throughout my coursework, I have greatly sharpened my critical analysis and thinking skills. Instead of focusing on proposed meanings or biographical background, I have learned to continuously ask "why" on many different levels. I always challenge myself to dig into any text as deeply as possible and unpack every minimal detail to develop a satisfying close read. The topic developed during the whole semester was the Illegal Immigration and the use of social services. During the first project, the exploratory essay the most challenge aspect was to …show more content…
In text I explained the impact in society of illegal immigrants trying to get into the readers mind and taking every peace of the problem out for it to be deeply understood, while the image itself creates more of a personal feeling. The angle of vision of the image gives the text the extra tool to strike into the readers way of seeing the illegal immigration un US and encourage to the necessity to arrive to a solution to this national issue. The most important consideration that has to be taken into choosing the correct image is that it has to define the text an argument in a visual
The overall claim of this essay is to distinguish the different mindsets of people who are pro immigration and anti immigration. The support the author overs for the claim is demonstrating the two different scenarios between the forth graders and protestors of Murrieta, California. Smith appealed to the readers by triggering their emotions. In the first scenario Smith appealed to the readers emotion by using children to identify a bigger meaning. The fourth grade class was devastated to loose one of their fellow classmates.

The author presented detailed examination of illegal immigration and clarified most frequently misunderstood aspects of illegal immigration. For instance, the genuine reasons for Enrique’s journey melted the hearts of many motherly readers; it represented an expedition for love, unity and family. Enrique, a little boy scarred from the separation of his mother portrays the urgency of immigration reforms in the nation. Most people tend to label illegal immigrants as rapists, robbers and murders, but in fact, majority of them are innocent kids waiting to meet their mothers. American society was established by immigrants and yet people are ignorant towards immigrants in the nation; they say, immigrants bring crime, but people are blind to the domestic injustices caused by the citizens.
“Passport Photos” by Amitava Kumar is an excerpt combining poetry and photography, and making it into a cultural analysis over immigrant conditions. The author explains complicated situations that immigrants have had to deal with when they step towards the U.S. and one of the main conflicts will be language. This piece has described historical moments, such as mentioning “Alfred Arteaga” and the irony of deportation and printing, cultural critiques, and the reality when it comes to the Hispanic cultures. Kumar reflects his book based on a significant image saying “Caution” in English and “Prohibido” in Spanish. In other words, the sign is telling citizens, “Caution”: be careful by avoiding danger, but then it is telling immigrant’s “Prohibido”,
In this chapter, John Bean suggest that beginning students think of writing as a separate skill when actually it is an integrate part of the critical thinking process. When I think of what Bean is saying, I can hear classmates saying, “I will just BS this assignment. ” Students tend to think that as long as they can write a decent paper then the content nor the process are very important. I like how Bean makes the writing element such a crucial part of learning so that one is not successfully achieved with the other.
Art provides a place to challenge these biased stereotypes about Mexican-Americans and bring awareness to the broken immigration laws and the enforcement system, while also encouraging its audience
Immigration Argumentative works are written to persuade the audience that the writer’s idea is valid, or more valid than someone else’s. Ethos, pathos, and logos are three types of persuasion that are used to persuade the reader to feel a certain way on array of topics from minor affairs to contentious matters. Immigration, for example, has become a controversial topic that many have strong feels about on both sides of the argument. “My Life in the Shadows” by Reyna Wences debates for support of immigration reforms, while “Unskilled Workers Lose Out to Immigrants” by Steven A. Camarota argues that immigration should be restricted.
Lejla Hodzic Mrs.Monroe English III(H): Period 3 Journal Reflection-MP1 When first writing in my journal I struggled with how deep to go with my discussion questions and what I should be asking my classmates. I feel that I have struggled with this because I lack confidence on what I am trying to prove or say in my writing. When reading in the past I have never pushed myself to question the author’s purpose or ask questions that invoke much thought. Up to this point in the year writing in my journal as well as annotating in the text, has helped my reading and writing immensely.
One of the hardest units for me was sensation and perception. I had trouble remembering the path of light, the pathway of sound, and other processes. This worksheet gives a quick review of all this and is a good way to study this material before the AP exam. Although this worksheet is not fun, it should be given to the students to act as a quick cheat sheet or reference paper. Another unit I struggled with, was the one that focused on the brain.

Bryson Esplin Mr. Johansen ENG 101 1 February 2023 Rhetorical Analysis of Julie Petersen’s “Analysis Essay: Is Macbeth A Tragic Hero?” One true problem with writing posted to the internet is the inability to prove what, if anything, is true or credible. With common phrases such as “Don’t believe everything you read” and “Fake news,” it has become more important than ever to know what articles are reliable. One example of a source that claims to be trustworthy but is questionable at best is the website AskPetersen.com. Julie Petersen, who runs the website, claims to have everything to help readers “write a perfect essay” (Petersen, “Blog”).
Critical thinking is relevant in a few different aspects of life. For example, critical thinking can be applied to school and learning. There are people who support using different aspects of critical thinking in students curriculum. Laura Hummell said, "Critical thinking skill development is crucial in elementary schools. Students who are allowed to explore, empathize, question, hypothesize, conceptualize, experiment, and evaluate throughout their own learning become productive community members" (Hummell 5).
A writer’s work is somewhat a reflection of his life, his surrounding or his true emotion. Chaucer’s life is a clear example of perseverance, adaptation, and wit. “Chaucer’s own family history is an example of the increasing social fluidity of late
English 102 Reflection During the course of English 102, I took this year of the spring semester. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were impossible. I have not only grown as a writer and a student but as an individual as well. I feel that through my experience of this English course, I have achieved knowledge and self-confidence to step out into the real world.
Having a critical mind makes one wiser and more tact about what he or she states. Through philosophical analysis, our critical thinking skills are improved because it teaches us to consider certain things first, before finally coming up to a decision or before we continue to converse with
