And being a patriot is apart of the American dream which I believe in. In the address" Address On The Occasion Of The Fiftieth Anniversary Of The Statue Of Liberty" President Franklin D. Roosevelt talks about all the memories the eager seeking millions that make this one of the greatest countries on the planet earth.
The United States has always had a lot to be proud of. With features like beautiful landscapes from deserts and forests to mountains and snow, the infamous title of ‘land of the free,’ and of course there hard won independence-which they have always found worth celebrating. The United States serves as the world’s melting pot, where the traditions of different races, cultures, genders, social classes, and any other difference can all be found in one place, though maybe living their lives in many different ways. The United States had always shown promise for so many people.
Nonetheless, I believe that to be an American means to have freedom, equality, and knowledge.
Langston Hughes was a poet, play writer, fiction writer, and novelist who spent most of his early years with his grandmother. His grandmother spent her time with him telling him stories of the past. Resultantly, he was instinctually drawn to African American culture. He later wrote stories, biographies and poems about black lives in America. Langston is very well known for his views on black lies from the twenties all through the sixties and was an important figure in shaping contributions of the Harlem Renaissance.
For many years, and years to come, America has been a country that many people like to visit and enjoy. We are very patriotic here in America, many people believe in our country’s ways and leaders. People enjoy visiting America not only because of our wonderful land and nature, but also because people like to see what it is like to be free and to have freedom of expression and all of those amendments that make our country free and great. Though we do have great lands and an extremity of beautiful nature surrounding us, especially here in Michigan. America has been known as a very patriotic and fair country, we are the land of the free and home of the brave.

America’s New Identity Some of America’s most formative years as a nation were in the very beginning of its independence. These developmental years were shortly after the Revolutionary War in the late 1780s. Some of the most important people in this time were Noah Webster, Andrew Jackson, James Monroe, and the original founding fathers. Americans were successful in developing a unique political, cultural, and economic identity separate from Britain in the years following the Revolutionary War.
As an American citizen, I am aware of my rights. I am very thankful for my rights and I am genuinely grateful for the people who served to give me those rights. Over the years, countless wars have been fought for equal rights and freedom. The freedom not just for our country, but for many others too. To emphasize, rights, equality and having a strong government is very important.
What the American Flag Means to Me I am proud to live in America. It makes me grateful for all the freedom we have compared to other countries. Every morning at West Middle School we say the pledge of allegiance, it gives me a special feeling, it gives me a happy feeling. Sometimes it makes me wants to give a big smile. When I see an American flag it makes me feel proud, respectful, and it reminds me of all the freedom I get.
America is the land of democracy. It has a strong constitutional protection for many civil and political rights. Regardless of people’s nationality, religion, color, or ethnic origin. It expends respect for the rule of law, dignity for the person and preserved the value of democratic principles. America is the land that exercises all human rights.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Being American to me means the ability to pursue happiness, an education, an income, and any of my dreams. Being able to live in a country that you can do anything that you set your mind to do and not having a dictator ruling the citizens. By being apart of this nation you are fortunate enough to have and make your own choices in life. Two main symbols that most people can immediately name when they think of the U.S. is the bald eagle and the American flag.
My Responsibility to America In America, we are given freedoms and our basic human rights. To make sure these freedoms such as free speech are kept, we as Americans have responsibilities to America. Whether it be in our everyday lives serving in our community or special occasions when serving on a jury, Americans are held to these responsibilities to keep the United States to the standard that it always is. Our basic responsibilities are to pay taxes and vote in elections, however, they extend far greater than those.
Being an American can mean many different things all depending on the different perspectives of different ethnic or religious groups. So what does being an American mean to me? Being an American to means that everyone can live a happy stress free life where they don’t have to worry about being discriminated against or feeling like they don’t have equal rights. To start with, being an American can range in definition depending on a person 's perspective of America. Personally, I would say being an American is when you can live a happy life where you don 't have to worry about being treated differently because of the color of your skin.
What it means to be an American is that you have the freedom to vote freedom of speech. You have the liberty to be what you want in America no one chooses for you. Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. You have the ability to speak what you want.
When you ask a non American “What does America mean to you?” , they will more often than not answer with hamburgers, obesity, NFL and Reality TV. That is okay because who doesn 't love hamburgers and football filled Sundays, who doesn 't love watching silly reality TV shows and who doesn 't love a cheat day every once in awhile? Those people are judging a book by its cover and fortunately for me… well my thoughts about America are quite different. When an individual asks me “What does America mean to you?”
