I excel in both the sciences as well as classes not directly related to my career path. This shows that I am diverse in my class choices and would provide more and be more beneficial than just book smart students. I do have an interest in helping others with their personal problems and learning about human behavior. This interview gave me an insight on what it is like to be in the psychology field and I believe I may need to work on a few things if I decide to peruse this career. First, I would have to learn how to control my emotions. Second, I would have to learn how to cope with stress, since this field comes with a lot stressful situations. I believe if I work hard enough, I would be able to overcome these two factors.
All of these attributes are related in that they all reflect my determined mindset in achieving my academic goals. Because I experienced hardships during high school due to my lack of determination, I worked to improve these aspects of myself so that I am not only more confident in my abilities, but also have a goal set in my mind that I can work towards achieving. The year and a half I spent after high school wondering what I should do with my life was a pretty low point in my life. I was confused and most of the time thought poorly of myself. College has helped re-invigorate me and helped me see my self-worth again. Going to class and seeing myself succeed made me feel better than I had in quite a while. Through my friends, who I considered my family, I learned how to manage the difficulties of both school and a social life. Throughout the majority of high school and middle school, I had a very unconventional microsystem. At home, my family was emotionally draining. I struggled with argument and abuse, so I relied on my peers and school to get me through each and every day. I learned to find friends and be academically successful all on my own.
I have now taken the Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment for the second time, and I am fascinated with the results. Not only for the differences that exist between the two assessments, but for also my most recent results. I first took the assessment in the Spring 2014 semester, about a year and a half ago, and in that time I have had an immense amount of personal growth. Therefore, I was very curious if my results would reflect the same. Not only did it reflect different strengths, but I believe that the results are more accurate than the prior assessment.
First, I would like to gain much more knowledge on how a family works. Second, I want to be able to understand the information I am learning in class and be able to apply it to other situations and classes. Lastly, I hope to be a good listener, supporter, and tool for my other classmates.
