This class was very reflective and that is the reason why I have decided to split it into two entries. Due to the high number of immigrants in Canada, it makes even more relevant to have knowledge on how to deal with diversity, once those differences become not only a challenge to be managed but also the opportunity to make Canada even more competitive in the global scenario.
During the class, I could have the opportunity to learn about designated target groups, which are women, visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and people with disabilities. The professor explained that companies in Canada must include the designated target groups as part of their teams, and there are laws to guarantee it,

It is not only important for the Human Resources students or professionals, but also for everyone who wants to build a successful career as well.
I understood the purposes and use of employment interviews during a selection process, and also, how to ask standard questions during the job interview, among others. Moreover, I could have the chance to be familiar with questions which may be used as an interviewer or interviewee and that would contribute to my performance in both situations.
To illustrate that, we were given an assignment which is an interview practicum and for that, I realized the importance of it, once the task led me to analyze a job posting, cover letter, resume, and also to consider the appropriate questions for a job interview. Personal Learning - Journal - Dec 8th, 2017
This class was the moment to put into practice what we had discussed throughout the semester., which was the Practicum Interview. For that task, I would be the interviewer and my classmate would be the interviewee.
For that task, in particular, I can say I could learn from it, even before the task itself, because I had to work with my classmate considering the job posting, questions to be asked during the interview, among

Personal Learning - Journal - The Rotman Networking Event
The professor invited us to join a networking event at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and it was a panel which was organized by the students.
On November, 13th, 2017, during the event, I had the chance to learn from the three panelists who have a solid experience not only in human resources but also in different segments as well. They have the background from different companies and sector that was very interesting to me.
The three panelists, Sherry Pedersen-Ajmani, Kelly Davis and Aliana Rozenek, explained about how HR is organized in the companies where they work and also mentioned the importance of being updated and this includes education, advances in technology, but they also mentioned the importance of doing what you like and believe
The work of Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin shows the importance of recognizing the voices of the minority in a world where the views of the majority dominate our decisions. The Canadian documentary Our People Will Be Healed is a prime example of the need for minority representation in democracy, which starts at an early age. This documentary gives viewers a glimpse into the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre, which is a school in Norway House, Manitoba.2 At this school, Cree students are taught about their history and culture3 side-by-side the standard Manitoba curriculum.2 In a country where pluralism is valued above all else, we should be encouraged to hold onto our own identities, while learning about the heritage of those around us. This Canadian documentary is extremely important as it shines a light on the pride that should be
CANADIAN IDENTITY By Rebecca Grimwood Does Canada have a secure identity, or have we become an American wannabe? The two countries share the longest border in the world, and have a similar amount of land mass. Many wonder if Canada is simply a smaller version of America. Although Canada is aware of America’s entertainment industry, concept of multiculturalism, and history, there are fundamental differences that make Canada’s identity unique and secure.

Organizations, agencies, institution and businesses that exhibit and promote cultural competence will integrate diversity into their policies, procedures, hiring practices and training. Question 1 Peter Loescher was hired by Siemens when the company was experiencing extremely difficult times. After the bribery scandal, the main goal was to gain back the trust and respect from the customers and partners, as well as building a new vision. The company’s board of directors decided that they needed a person from outside of the company, who had no connection and loyalty to previous vision, and no affiliation with previous management team. In my opinion, the company owners hired Loescher for a specific purpose to change the overall team perception of how work is supposed to be done.

The Harvard Model of HRM: Back in 1984, Beer et al developed the Harvard model of the HRM. Beer et al believe that the human resource is passes many of pressures nowadays, therefore, eliminating the pressures is required. These pressures could be eliminating by having a long-term perspective in terms of controlling people and potential assets rather than just variable costs. As a result, Beer et al approach the Harvard Model of the HRM. The purpose of this model is to solve the pressures that may occur in the HR of any organizations; these pressures include all management decisions that will affect the relationship between the organizations and their workers, in addition to a clear plan for the HRM policies and procedures by the manager of
ZHANG Shiyuan_HRM Human Recourse Management fascinates for me for the dynamism and challenge that it provides. A vital cog in the machinery of any business to maximize employee productivity, it is an interdisciplinary field relevant to the knowledge in policies and industries, business environment, organizational culture, essential skills in negotiation and leadership. I am hugely interested in grasping HRM knowledge for further integration with strategy consulting and management, which will be essential for establishing my career path. My first degree in International Communication Studies, which places great emphasis on analytical and highly interdisciplinary approach, has cultivated me with the literacy of communication, a significant quality needed for a practitioner in media and culture.
We will then elaborate on a case study of our choice in order for us to illustrate the concept of Diversity Management. We will link the two parts of theoretical and analytical so that there is an understanding of how Diversity Management plays a role in the everyday lives and how it is applied. After that we will end off by summarizing what we have researched on Diversity
