This reflection paper covers 3 interesting issues that I found to be highly relevant in today’s marketing context. The 3 issues to be elaborated are namely; the use of social media in promotion strategy, sustainable marketing and pricing strategy. In addition, it also entails some of the learning points I have learned from the marketing project proposal. 1. Interesting Issues 1.1. Promotion Strategy Social media marketing has become the “next big thing” and marketers see the importance of creating appealing contents across all major social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to create buzzwords. This is evident as most of the teams used some form of social media tentacles in their marketing proposals as a cheaper form of marketing channel. According to Social Media Examiner, 97% of marketers are currently participating in social media but 85% are not sure how to put these social media tools to best use. Moreover, according to Hubspot, 80% of marketers expressed that their social media efforts have increased traffic to their websites (Forbes, 2014). This demonstrates a huge potential for social media marketing to increase sales. However, I feel that social media marketing is not necessary the best promotion channel if the marketer fails to identify the correct social media platform to reach out to its intended target audience.
