In this part I will review myself, about what have I done and what can I do, so I can be closer to my vision. As I have mentioned in my current situations I have strength, weaknesses, opportunity and threats. My strategy is that I want to maintain my strength, overcome my weaknesses and threats and take advantage of the opportunity. My strengths are my calm and observant personality. The things about my strengths are they come from my personalities. I don’t think it will be hard to maintain these personalities. However to be able to remain calm I have to learn to deal with things in critical condition. My calmness come because I have dealt with many things in critical conditioned. So my past experience is what really makes me a calm person. Being an observant person is not that easy. To be able to be an observant people I have to always pay attention to almost everything. I am that type of person who likes to listen. I am a very good listener. So because I like to listen, whenever I talk to someone or anyone I would always listen carefully to them. This is what makes me a very observant person. Everybody has weaknesses, but it is up to us whether we want to keep those weaknesses or overcome it. I mentioned that my weaknesses is overthinking, perfectionist and arrogant. Actually my weaknesses are interconnected with one another. The root of all of my weaknesses is that I always want to be perfect. To overcome these weaknesses I always try to keep in my mind that I have to
I desire to beat my shortcomings without blaming others for my
I tend to make excuses for myself. I like to stay on the couch and do nothing, when I knew I should be working. In softball, Our coaches tell us to put in extra work; the extra work helps become a better player. All the extra things I do help me out in the future. Another weakness I have is having a bad attitude.
Upon completion of the Strengths Finder survey, I learned I have five areas of strength (Clifton & Anderson & Schreiner, 2006). These strengths are; achiever, communication, arranger, positivity, and ideation. I must admit, before taking this survey there were doubts surrounding its accuracy. By nature, I am a sceptic of this type of personal inflection conducted by an outsourced company. Prior to taking it, I kept telling myself, there is no possible way that a simple survey can give me insight on my inner workings.
It’s very likely that you usually pay more attention to your shortcomings than your strong points. You customarily devote yourself to overcoming your limitations.” (Gallup, n.d., p. 5). This statement is very true; I am a very motivated individual, and I am always trying to better myself. I am a person that does not focus on my strengths, but on my weaknesses that I need to improve.
My strengths are a quick ability to make decisions, allowing me to think on my toes; I am also good at organising things such as events or journeys.
After knowing what my weaknesses are, I usually try to solve them and improve my skills. For example, I’m not a highly flexible and positive person, so I seek out to individuals who are flexible and positive in their lives and ask for their advice. Another strength that I have is that I usually have a positive outlook of my improvement, because I have seen examples of those who overcome their hardships and become successful in life, so I believe that if I try hard enough, I will be able to overcome my weaknesses. I’m also confident with my listening skills and my ability to focus on others and make them feel heard. I like to start on works and projects early so that if anything comes up, I will still have time to handle it.
On the other hand, my academic weakness is that I am a perfectionist. Some would say that being a perfectionist is a strength, but I believe in my case it is a weakness. I am conscious with my school work and worry if there is anything wrong. Being a perfectionist leads me to accept nothing but the best on my school
In “Strengths Finder 2.0,” Tom Rath informs us that, “You cannot be anything you want to be- but you can be a lot more of who you already are” (Rath p9). I agree with him in the fact that we must focus on our strengths rather than trying to better our weaknesses in order to become successful. So many people today put their attention towards improving their weaknesses that they are surpass by others who focus on their strengths. After learning my own personal strengths, I have a better understanding of who I am and how to focus on these both in school and in the workforce.
Downfall In the world everyone has flaws. There are no perfect people in this world and there never will be. It is a fact of life that everyone will have flaws. Some people’s flaws are worse than others.
Strengths Finder Reflection My top five strengths are adaptability, relator, maximizer, empathetic and strategic. It was not surprising to confirm my top five strengths because, in my work and social interactions, I find that I love relating with others and yearn to understand their situations and take them in that light. However, I am also a practical person who likes planning and looking at an issue from all perspectives. I, therefore, believe that I strike a balance as I am not rigid, neither am I too spontaneous, but most of all I try as much as possible to deal with a situation on its merit to maximize on positive outcomes.
When we know others strengths we can defer and give people work that utilizes their strengths to their full potential. Capitalize on your strengths. Use the strengths to gain the most for yourself. Find a career where strengths are used so you can succeed.
It is important to assess your strengths and weaknesses so you know what you are strong in and what areas you need to improve. One of my strengths is math. Being strong in math is an advantage, since chemistry involves mathematics. One of my weaknesses is English. I have poor grammar and already know I will struggle with English next semester.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
Learning about my strengths and weaknesses with the self-assessment has helped me to figure out how to be successful in school and what I need to improve on. In perspective, I thought the self-assessment was meaningful and beneficial because it will make me be more aware of what I should focus on and improve. I did not learn anything new about myself but I am going to be more aware of what I can change for the better about myself. My weaknesses from the survey were expected because I honestly do not have a very outgoing personality and I expected to score poorly in those areas.
Personality is defined as the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual 's unique character. Personality theory is the approaches to understanding the “What”, “How” and “When” of characteristics and features that make up an individual 's personality. An insight into personality is important to understand the function of a person’s mind. By doing this you would be able to understand and observe your own psyche from an outside perspective, interact with others better and understand why they do what they do or predict how someone may react to something. My personality can be describe as Introverted since I am reserved, practical and quiet.
