Reflection on Xueping Wei’ s “Implication of IL Fossilization in Second Language Acquisition” Summary This article called “Implication of IL Fossilization in Second Language Acquisition” written by Xueping Wei basically explains the IL fossilization in second language acquisition involved in the definition, classification, presentation, causal factors of fossilization and how to reduce fossilization. There are six parts. To begin with, the author introduces the notion of fossilization. It was put forward in 1972 and was redefined that fossilization as a permanent cessation of IL learning before the learner has attained TL norms at all levels of linguistic structure and in all discourse domains in 1978. Although there are many different scholars about fossilization, this paper is based on commonly accepted concept. Then the author tells us classification of fossilization. Selinker classified fossilization into individual fossilization and group fossilization or temporary fossilization and permanent fossilization. What’s more, fossilization occurs at all levels, from phonological layer to pragmatic layer. It includes phonological fossilization, morphological fossilization, syntactic fossilization, semantic fossilization and pragmatic fossilization. When we have the question that how these fossilization produce, the author tells us some causal factors of fossilization. There is a link between fossilization and language transfer. The differences between L1 and L2 is the reason
