The second half of the course on “Organization Behavior” has largely been a course of more focused learnings. In this very hectic schedule of the second term, every OB lecture is something that a student waits for, where in they can momentarily reflect and look into their self and learn as to what one can do about it. I have documented my experiences below: Positive Psychology Positive Psychology is the understanding of human advancements, and is an applied approach to its superior functioning. It has also been told as the study of the power and virtues that makes individuals, societies and surroundings to thrive and prosper. We understood how it is grounded in the belief that human beings wish to live meaningful and prosperous lives, to manure …show more content…
The presentation was given by Vijayalakshmi ma’am and it was very relevant, and showed that how ordinary people, with their extra ordinary will and determination have served the nation in their own ways. The lecture had a deep impact on me as very carefully put the whole idea in-front of me. The idea to give back is important, and everyone has their own way of doing it. The intent must be there, rest will follow. I had not known any of the personalities in the presentation, and this has been one of the bigger learnings, where in the act-of-giving doesn't run after recognition of the world. The recognition follows and even if does not, it does not really …show more content…
We learnt how POB plays a very pivotal role in the office environment. Self-Efficacy We used to have long discussions over self-efficacy. It pertains to an ones belief in his or her capability to perform behaviors needed to create specific performance achievements. It reflects confidence and passion in the ability to provide control over one's own behavior and social surroundings. We learnt that belief in one’s capabilities to perform and execute the events of action needed to manage expected situations. The belief in his or her ability to excel in a particular given situation. The attributes of people with a strong sense of self-efficacy are: • To view challenging questions as tasks that needs to be mastered • To develop deeper insight and interest in the workings • To create a stronger sense of commitment towards their hobby • To recover fast from defeats and disappointments Emotional
Self-efficacy is best explained by Bandura (1995) who says that it "refers to beliefs in one's capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to manage prospective situations". More simply, self-efficacy is what an individual believes he or she can accomplish using his or her skills under certain circumstances (Snyder & Lopez, 2007). Self-efficacy has been thought to be a task-specific version of self-esteem. The basic principle behind Self-Efficacy Theory is that individuals are more likely to engage in activities for which they have high self-efficacy and less likely to engage in those they do not (Van der Bijl & Shortridge-Baggett, 2002). I think that this research by Snyder & lopez is particularly relevant to Simons case as.
My high levels of self-efficacy strongly enhanced my accomplishments and my personal perception of my wellbeing. It has given me willingness to experiment with new ideas. I believe self-efficacy encourages me to set higher expectations for future performances. My teachers telling me, “You can do this,” have also increased my confidence to do a task. Verbal persuasion and encouragement such as this is important, it does not contribute as much as an individual's own experiences but the encouragement builds
From a global perspective, positive psychology centers on the positive aspects of human development. It is a fact that as a human grows and matures, the person faces the same challenges that every developing human encounters. However, although there are many who are at the point in their lives where their efforts and labors are recognized, the recognition often does not support the person (Seligman, 2009). The author suggests that every human should place him or her on the path to the “good life.” This does not necessarily mean wealth or intangible assets but rather inner happiness and peace (p. 45).
Overall, I had a very positive experience during this first week of my mental health clinical rotation. When I went into the hospital, I was a little apprehensive because of the stories the orientation nurse told us about the different units. However, when I got onto the unit, I realized that these children were the same as other kids, but they had different mental health issues from their past experiences or their genetics. Most of the kids on this unit did not do anything to become the way they are.
NTCC Project Correlating The Schindler’s Ark (Written by Thomas Keneally) With Organizational Behavior Today Subject of Interest: Human Resource Management Teacher Concerned: Ms. Geeta Mishra Made by Raghav Verma Preface In the conventional sense, an Organization is an organized group of people working to achieve various business goals, personal goals and social goals. Business goals generally include profit maximization, business expansion and diversification, etc.
Introduction Organizational Behavior is the field of study which investigates the impact that individuals, group and structures have on behavior within the organization. We are born in an organization, we live, we work and most probably we will die in an organization. Yet most of us do not understand how people function, behave and interact between each other within these organizations. We also do not understand if people shape an organization or an organization shapes people. Different people work differently in different situations.
Happiness is something that each person has spent an amount of time in their life searching for, though it is unlikely that even the happiest people will be cheerful all the time. Positive psychologists have a goal to increase overall happiness in everyone, yet that is a difficult task when happiness is a very subjective emotion, it means something different to many people. The definition of happiness can even differ depending on culture, “ In North America One other goal for positive psychology is for psychologists to put as much effort into nurturing happiness rather than focusing solely on reducing feeling of unhappiness. “The emergence of ‘positive psychology,’ whose proponents urge fellow researchers to study happiness as seriously as they did pathological states such as depression.” (Begley 455)
Reflection Self-Assessment As a student I have learned over the course learn more than I thought I would have thought possible. The career report allowed me to reach and find the career I want to enter after college as a preservation historian. This is going to be a reflection on the writing proses I had for the career report. My writing proses was done in three parts.
Organizational behavior: Emerging knowledge, global reality (7th ed.). New York, NY:
1.3 The different theories of well-being It is through positive psychology that we will provide an overview of the different theories surrounding welfare. Positive psychology is "the study of the conditions and processes that contribute to the development or the functioning of people, groups and institutions". This definition indicates that it is the pursuit of self-fulfillment and personal development, involving interpersonal relationships, social and even political. Therefore, positive psychology may be related to the development of college students, relationships within a work team, or the mode of communication between diplomats preparing a peace treaty.
1.2.1.2 Bandura’s social cognitive theory (1997) While one strand of research grounded in Rotter’s Social Learning Theory developed, a second strand emerged, growing out of Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory and his construct of Self-Efficacy, as initially described in his 1977 article, ‘‘Self-Efficacy: Toward a unifying theory of behavioral change’’. Bandura (1997) defined perceived Self-Efficacy as ‘‘beliefs in one’s capabilities
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
In this part I will review myself, about what have I done and what can I do, so I can be closer to my vision. As I have mentioned in my current situations I have strength, weaknesses, opportunity and threats. My strategy is that I want to maintain my strength, overcome my weaknesses and threats and take advantage of the opportunity. My strengths are my calm and observant personality.
1. The three objectives of psychology prior to WWII are to cure the mentally ill, enhance the quality of life for every individual, and to support the talents of gifted people (page 180). Community psychology is similar to Seligman and Csikszentmihalyi’s (2000) concept of positive psychology in that even though there are negative occurrences there is a focus on establishing positive outcomes. 2. “Victims of poverty” refers to impoverished individuals especially impoverished people of color (Ryan, 1971).
Furthermore, OB investigates the study of what people do in an organization as well as help them to recognize how their behaviors impact on the organization performance (Judge & Robbins, 2013). That the reasons why OB plays a significant role in business. More importantly, Mr. Hoang also instructs me how to apply the knowledge gained through this course for enhancing my personal development. The first valuable knowledge is that how to communicate with other people effectively. The second precious lesson is how to create a positive organizational culture.
