Reflection Paper. As a young girl being educated in a government institution, where students mostly speak local languages regardless of numerous laid down rules which banned the speaking of vernacular during the school session. This affected almost every student in their reading, writing and in uttering words in English of which I am no exception. I wanted to better myself in English hence I visited my English teacher during school hours and told her about my struggles with the language. She encouraged me to get storybooks and a dictionary. I had to look up two new words in the dictionary every day, write its meaning and learn to pronounce them. This was basically how my journey with English and literature started off. I found it extremely difficult searching for a word in the dictionary. I would flip the pages of the dictionary several times before I find a word. The pronunciation of certain words was also a challenge. However, I learned to pronounce those words using the dictionary. You could imagine the ordeal I had to go since I was only about 10 years old. I misused personal pronouns especially with “He and She”. Also, it was difficult for me to comprehend the difference between verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. I used them interchangeably. My years in grade school was not as easy as it may seem. I had problems conjugating verbs. I remember always getting the answer to the figure of speech of an indicated sentence in comprehension questions wrong every time. After
