Drawing off of the course lessons 29 and 30 I sat down and counseled Cadet Fessler about how I have seen this semester going for him. To prepare for this counseling I set up a time to meet with Cadet Fessler and it was a situation that required informal attire, and the way I had set up the room was so we could sit on the same side of the table but maintain eye contact while talking to each other in order to make it appear to be a more conversational meeting rather than a one sided conversation creating a supportive climate. To prepare my information and self for the meeting I spoke to Cadet Calandro about what he has seen and what I have seen just comparing notes about Cadet Fessler, roughly an hour before my meeting with Cadet Fessler I was sitting in the cadet lounge planning what I was going to say and how I would take notes and pondering any potential questions he would have or suggestions he would make for the betterment of training. During the counseling session I made sure to keep a Supportive climate, one correction I made was about how his command presence is not very good and he does not speak out during LLAB so evaluating him is difficult because he blends in to the flight. The way I went about making this correction was, I asked him “How he felt he was doing? This is a summary of my learning whilst being on the foundation degree. I am finally at the end of my counselling degree and I think this has been my biggest accomplishment to date, alongside raising my boys. I have learned such a lot about myself and gained a better insight into how and why I relate to others the way I did and still do. In my PDP presentation, I talked about client work, supervision, peers, Personal development group, and personal therapy so I will just summarise these in this essay.

Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
The career that I am considering as a future possibility is the clinical social worker. Clinical social work is a specialty practice area of social work which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illness, emotional, and other behavioral disturbances. These practices can happen individually, in a group and/or in family therapy, which is common treatment styles. Social workers that provide these services are required to be licensed or certified at the clinical level in their state of practice. To become a licensed clinical social worker student who did not earn a bachelors of social work, must complete a traditional masters of a social work program that typically takes two to four years depending on whether a student attends full-time or part-time.
Introduction After the Advanced Skills Facilitation course, I had learned many counselling skills in group counselling and different settings of group counselling. Also, it provided a lot of exercises for us to practice group counselling sessions. Thus, there are many things that I can make a reflection on it.
Many theories of group counselling have borrowed ideas and approaches from psychoanalysis. The primary aim of the analytic process is reorganize the client’s personality and character structure. This aim is attained by making unconscious conflicts conscious and analysing them. Wolf (1963, 1975) developed group applications of fundamental psychoanalytic approaches such as working with transference, free association, dreams, and the historical factors of existing behaviour. The group leader relates understanding to the family-like relations that emerge among the members and between the members and the therapist.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
