Reflection On Parenting And Family Support

My second observation was of the class PFS 500 about “Parenting & Family Support”. This course is taught by Dr. Maha Ibrahim, who is a Saudi Associate professor of Social Studies in King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia.
The physical learning environment in her class was the U-shaped layout which encourages engagement between instructor and student. The Instructor enter the U and engaged with students one-on-one. The environment was conducive to learning, adequately lit, chairs and tables were comfortable and the environment temperature was comfortable.
Maha Ibrahim received a BS in Child Development from King Saud University and an MA in Psychology from King Faisal University. She was teaching a classes to share her expertise on working with families and share how human behavior affect parenting & families in a social-cultural context.
The instructor’s objective to describe and analyze challenges from the larger societal context impacting parents and families. She provided suggestions for how family serving professionals can integrate this knowledge into their practice. Draw upon theories and research on the ecology of parenting to inform my practice. Demonstrate how to analyze power relations among racial, social, cultural, or economic groups in Saudi Arabia.

I learned that it is important to spend less time explaining through instruction and investing more time in experimental and error-tolerant modes of engagement. The notion that learning involves students as co-creators and collaborative problem-solvers is indeed an important one, and teachers and schools that work to capitalize on the generational characteristics of sharing, researching, evaluating, and collaborating with peers, are more likely to enact and inspire teaching and learning practices that emulate the forms of sharing and social engagement that are flourishing in the 21st century
