A1 Self-leadership
Self-leadership is presented as a set of behavioral strategy to help higher one’s effectiveness and bring high work performance ( Manz, 1986). This includes the self-understanding part and the self-management part, that combine the reinforcement (Bandura, 1977), goal-setting and intrinsic motivation (Deci, 1975). For the individual aspect, self-leading people have a higher job performance (Konradt, Andreßen & Ellwart, 2009) and they usually be more creative (Carmeli, Meitar, & Weisberg, 2006). People can get improvements after they understand the situation and their own strengths and weaknesses, which is self- understanding. They have to set goals and standard to themselves and seek a better plan for them to reach the goal, similar to the self -goal setting. With good use of primary factor

Self-control means the individual’s capability to adjust their behavior to reach the goal or meet the standard that they expected (Baumeister, Vohs & Tice, 2007) . Some studies point up the self-control is controlling individual’s own behavior. Then that will bring the positive affects to the person and lead the better performance in both personal growth and interpersonal interactions (Tangney, Baumeister, & Boone, 2004). According to Rachlin (1974), the individuals who have the self controlling behavior, like self-administration, will prefer larger rewards in their future, rather than having smaller rewards now. In this part, I will share my story in the beginning and then have the self reflection. I am a lucky
The importance of self-control is very significant because it facilitates success, decreases stress and helps maintain equilibrium. In Merriam-Webster’s dictionary self-control is defined as restraint exercised over one’s own impulses, emotions, or desires. To have self control means a person can restrain him/herself in difficult situations. This means not yelling at a person when frustrated with them. The opposite of self-control is to lose control of him/herself in difficult situations.
Self-Control is the ability to control your emotions and not let them interfere with the way you provide support and care. Working with J.K. was sometimes difficult and I would often leave his classroom feeling defeated. However, I did not let these feelings show during my time with the students and I tried my best shrug off the bad days by continuing to work towards future
Chris Hadfield once said that “Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts... It is about laying the groundwork for others' success, and then standing back and letting them shine.” Hadfield is stating in this quote that in order our leaders to be successful, they muse ensure our prosperity before their own. With this quote clearly effective leaders collaborate with their people to ensure they are successful and mindful. Collaborative leadership is the strongest way to lead because fear and power can sometimes create anarchy and dissent while respect and decency ultimately create a harmonious society.
By putting this recommendation into action now, I expect to become more connected to my coworkers, more visible to upper management, and more capable of making effective decisions in future leadership positions. Finally, my third change will be taking a more energetic approach to furthering my education, so I am able to have the skills I need to make effective decisions with the two-up, two-down approach in mind (Schmalz, 2015, np). In order to understand the goals and motivators of those above me, I need to learn more about their responsibilities and habits. 1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
Self Reflection over an Introduction to Adaptive Leadership When first signing up for this class I believed it to be a class about learning how to become a leader, or an even better one. After watching the course introduction and learning more about this class I learned that it was not what I thought it was about, but would still value me greatly. As I have examined the history of different leadership styles and theories I have expanded greatly on what I knew about leadership, learning specifically about adaptive leadership. I can also say that I have seen growth in my journals over the past few weeks, as they have started to grasp a better understanding of adaptive leadership.
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
Individual Reflective Paper Introduction Leadership, a controversial concept, has been studied for centuries. Scholars who study leadership have argued with the insight of leadership for many decades and finally promote a wide range of understandings of it. This course “values and leadership” introduces the basic principles and concepts about leadership, and provides us with some conceptual knowledge and practical approaches to be an outstanding leaders. I chose to take this course because I am interested in the topic about leadership.
Through self-reflection and academic readings, I have discovered that I identify with three different leadership theories. During the first meeting in a Strength Based Leadership class, we were asked to write our leadership history. The class then began an ongoing exploration of various leadership theories. Upon reviewing my leadership history from the first class and synthesizing the information from the theories that were examined, I discovered that I most resonate with the Trait Leadership Theory, the Skills Leadership Theory, and the Path-Goal Leadership theory. These theories are leader focused, describing the process and techniques a leader uses to accomplish goals.
Introduction- The leadership and management are two important pillars of modern day business. “You manage things; you lead people” Grace Hopper (retired Admiral, U.S. Navy). On one hand managers, not only motivate people but they also set the course of direction and organize to achieve the targets.
Nice discussion post this week! You start off with a great definition of what leadership is. To me, it is hard to define what leadership is, especially in one sentence, but I agree with you that leadership is the action of leading others or an organization. I feel like it is when someone steps up and goes into the unknown as well. It is also important to mention that it is never just one single person.
Introduction Leadership is the art of empowering people around you to achieve a goal. As a leader I want to help others become leaders themselves. I firmly believe that by leading based on my values this will be accomplished. I have had many leadership influences throughout my career. Some of them showed me the way I wanted to someday lead and others showed me exactly how not to.
Over the last few weeks, leadership class has succeeded in getting me to think deeply about my life, who I really am and who I hope to be. This is good because it helps me put proper measures in place that will help me accomplish those goals. A servant leader, as we have discussed in class is one who is servant-first. His main aim is to serve his people and do what is best for the people around him, whether he is in a leadership position or not.
