The most basic way I know how to describe social work is that it is a profession that concerns itself with the well being of a population and social workers help to provide assistance and support to those within that population. There are many different subsets of populations that one may find themselves in, such as elder care, families, children and youth, and those with disabilities, to name a few. My family didn’t have a lot of money, but we were not underprivileged in any way. I never wondered when I was going to eat next, I had clean clothes and went to bed in the same house every night. I fully recognize that I am extremely fortunate and feel lucky to have grown up the way that I did. The second step I want to take is taking in as much information as I can from my professors at USC. There are many more steps on my path, many more than I am even able to realize right now. I look forward to having the opportunity to learn at this University and to keep making goals and taking steps. I have heard of academics at USC and have always held the University in high regard. I believe that this school will provide me the right tools and resources and help me on my career path. I would feel incredibly lucky to be able to attend USC and be able to learn from people who have dedicated their lives to social work and are able to answer my questions and help me realize the next steps that I need to
