Just like anybody else, there are several moments in my life that have occurred that made me feel as if I learned about myself in a tremendous way. However, the biggest being when I moved to Cedar Rapids to attend Kirkwood. My family has always been the most important thing to me and I went from being surrounded by family members, to absolutely nobody. I felt like I had hit a wall and I could not do anything without them. During my first semester, I kept toying with the idea of going back home. I was enrolled as a full-time student, working over 20 hours a week, and I was deprived of my loved ones. I had convinced myself that I could not do it and I was struggling with school and meeting others, which was not me. I am an extroverted individual according to my results from the Jung Typology test. However, things began to look up for me when finals week approached. I plan to enter the nursing program, so the grades I receive are important. I knew that I was not going to earn the grades I needed without discussing the content with others. I chose to introduce myself to other girls in my class to form a study group. Little did I know at the time that they would become my new support system! I believe that the perception process truly impacted what was occurring in my mind and the decisions I chose to make.
