Branch’s literacy was built from the influences his parents had and different devices that developed for him as a young child. My institute of knowledge had a similar foundation to Branch’s. Each of my sponsors are from programs, schools, and people that had a different goal. Sometimes, I would share these goals with the programs. Each of my developments are utilized daily in different aspects. Each expansion on these developments have a different story on how they were formed and what I drew from them. My different literacies consist of oral communication, visual arts, programming and gaming, and mathematics.
Mathematical literacy is a basic foundation for almost all of the institutions I have acquired over the years. Through mathematics

I started art at a very young age like others do. I had illustrations on walls of stick figures and sometimes on paper. As time passed I wanted professional techniques that could enhance my ability. It started out small with my mother, who had mastered the art of visualization. She had an abstract style of art that I inherited from studying her helping us coloring books and her more serious art piece. As I moved on to high school, my teacher Mr. Hutchins understood more of my style than any other person in the class. Mr. Hutchins understood my abstract drawings and helped me to develop techniques to make me at stick out more. I remember when working on an abstract painting of the fall time in West Virginia, Mr. Hutchins noticed I had a pattern in my piece and helped me to tear apart the pattern. He added more random strokes to take apart the patterns and then I tried to do the same. He helped to make my work pop out more with his ideas. Others in my class believed that my art had to have a purpose. The true purpose for me was to see the way others saw my paintings.
Together all of these literacies characterized my ability to produce results in my future occupation. Branch was able to lead a successful life as a software developer by his technological bases he created. Applying these abilities to not only on a daily basis, but on a future basis. I aspire to use my skills in mathematics,
Literacy is at the heart of every facet of our lives and by taking it away you can make one’s life less than what it should be. These two mean prove how necessary it is for people to be educated so that they can advocate for themselves and lead the way on the path to their
My best friend was the greatest role model at the time and she was amazing at drawing. Over the years, I’ve improved and it is now a treasured hobby. My schoolwork was covered with doodles in the margins of the papers, and abandoned sketches would slip through the pages of my notebooks. Many say that the art field is not respectful and maybe hard to get a stable job in. I wouldn’t refute as in some cases they can be right.
Like Mark Mathabane his parents sacrificed a lot for their sons education. He mentions “If, because of my schooling, I had grown culturally separated from my parents, my education finally had given me ways of speaking and caring about that fact.” (1) This shows that his childhood had a huge impact on the way he looked at education and literacy. Due to his situation he was even more intrigued in reading. The only thing that made him uncomfortable about reading by himself was the feeling of ¨loneliness”.
Their Struggle is Real Students sat in straight long rows as I gently placed a diagnostic assessment on their desk. As I continued placing the diagnostic assessment on each desk, I listened to the moans and groans of my students who resented the assessment. I could hear the females in my classroom sucking their teeth in disappointment, the males mumbling “Wait we Have an Essay”!.I looked out the corner of my eye watching students put their head down. Many students either stared blankly at their assessments with a look of confusion on their face, while other students raised their hand waiting to be called. Before I assisted any of my students, I explained the directions and the purpose of a diagnostic assessment.
This man will discover, to his chagrin, that hydrogen burns and oxygen sustains combustion. He will never succeed in explaining the characteristics of the whole by analyzing the characteristics of its elements (Rieber 45). When literacies are strung together to form a profile we begin to see their purposes and their personal flavours. A group of literacies forms a frame around themselves and the person which practises them.
Coming to terms with learning how to follow a crowd and stand out at the same time took a lot of trial and error, especially throughout my work. Yet, because of the introductory courses I took, I knew how to showcase my skills in a uniform aspect while still having my art stand out. Because of the useful lesson I learned from not only my art classes, but the extracurricular activities I participated in I was able to reach a virtuous point for me to not be apprehended and have the ability to move
Brandt in one of her books, “Sponsor of Literacy,” verify the method for changing of the literacy learning from 1895 and 1985. She changes the concept that people do not have ability to become literate by themselves. For Brandt, sponsors not only assist people but also take some advantage from them. Brandt firstly states that before mid-nineteenth printer apprentices used to be well paid until the invention of print industry. At this time, printer apprentices were obligated to have reading and writing skills to be successful in their area.
Becoming literate will give me the opportunity to give back to my family. I could then let her know that I appreciate her sacrifices that held our family together. Like Sherman Alexie who gave back by visiting schools to teach Indian students creative writing, as mentioned in “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me,” I too wanted to give back but in a different way. I figured that by becoming literate and educated, I would be able to help my mother support the family.
My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success. I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole.
Literacy has applied over the course of my education and my life. As an education major, I believed that literacy was an ability to learn how to read and write. Furthermore, literacy has been a part of my education. I have come to an understanding that literacy is a lot more than what it seems. It’s about expressing yourself that includes your opinions and feelings.
The history of my literacy has been a long road of a frustration and learned lessons. As a child, I was a bit of a loner so reading and writing were the closest thing to a social life for me. The things that I bottled up inside came out through my writing and it became somewhat of a pass time for me. As long I could remember literacy as has been an important value for me in my life because from very young age I got express my true self without being judged by the outside. Even though in my later years I would deal with some heartaches and set back that lead me to give up on my love for reading.
It is a problem I have been working to fix. I feel most successful in my art, mostly outside the classroom where I can improve on the tidbits I prefer. Artwork is something personal I do better when working
Artist Statement The reason why I make art is it feeds my soul in a way that words can describe, gives me life. I like making art because it helps me explore my mind and heart into a deeper level and where I know no limits. What inspires me to make art is life but mostly are people who have touch my life. In this body of work, I worked with paint, photo shop, magazines, digital photography and film.
Descriptive Essay I have never thought that drawing would help me out in life until I tried it. The interest started when I was in second grade when I saw one of my best friends drawing. I am thankful for her, she is the one who taught me to be patient and practice makes perfect. It gets a little frustrating and overwhelming when your interest is there, but you are not good at it.
The great part about art is it can be made with anything, which is why I enjoy expanding my use of different mediums. I grew up loving watercolor because my grandmother has always been a watercolor painter. Ever since I was a young girl I would admire her paintings in her house and just be intrigued. At the young age of seven my grandmother gave me my first paint set and easel and I became obsessed. When I create a watercolor painting I do not necessarily make it in a structure way it.
