Berger believes that how a person sees things is influenced by what they know or what they believe. It was during the time of Ferdinand Magellan that people believed the world was flat and at the end of this flat land was a pit to hell. Eventually, this idea was proven wrong when Magellan circumnavigated the world. Another example is how the United States forbid the idea of same-sex marriage in the past but now looking at the rainbow filtered Facebook profile pictures, same-sex marriage has become constitutional in their country.
Over 19 years, I have been instilled with a number of ideologies that have come and go only to be replaced by new ones, as I grew older. Parents are believed to be the primary transmitters of culture with whom children learn the basic norms of society, hence an obvious starting point that influenced me when I was younger were my parents.
My mother grew up poor. She would always tell us stories of how they would only eat rice mixed with salt just to alleviate their hunger and she would go about saying how she helped till their land under the blazing sun just so she could study. That is why all the hard work she does is for us to have a better life because she does not want us to endure what she felt when she was young. She made me believe that success and hard work always come hand in hand. As a result, I always see to it that I give my best whenever I want to achieve something.
