These days, it seems people are on social media everywhere, anytime and anyplace. Constantly on their phones and not living in the moment. Spending hours scrolling through their social feeds, comparing their life with others. Making followers their top priority rather than focusing on more important things. I believe social media has many negative aspects towards people from cyberbullying to various mental illnesses. My bias has led me to believe social media plays a negative role in our society. However, I've realized this isn't completely true.
Usually when I go on social media I expect to see negative things. I assume everything on social media is corrupting in one way or another, and because of these reasons I avoid social media. I don’t

When I was younger, my parents never let me go on social media. They taught me how harmful it can be and told me I should try to avoid it as much as possible. When I decided to make an account on Facebook and Instagram, I felt like I had an addiction. It was the only thing I wanted to do, I found myself wasting countless hours scrolling pointless videos and pictures when I should have been doing something more meaningful. I regretted throwing away my valuable time and realized I didn’t want social media to control how I live my …show more content…
However, if used for the right reasons it can be very useful and can have some benefits, whether its connecting with old friends or trying to promote a blog or business. I believe my bias has taught me many things, yet still left me blind to other possibilities. It has helped me save my time and made me happier by clearing out all the toxic effects of social media. Although, I have learned that I can be judgmental towards people, and automatically think things that I know are most likely not true. I tend to assume people have nothing else better to do with their lives, trying to seek out attention or I may think most of them are narcissists who only care about how many followers they have on Instagram. I believe I can overcome this by trying to be more positive and try to consider both the negative and positive sides of these social networking sites and try to gain more experience for myself. Social media is going to be forever part of our society. In fact, it has become a very important part of it. Because of its importance and major influence, society needs to work on spreading awareness and incorporating it into more positive
Today’s generation of people think that a word called clout and popularity is such an important thing to be a part of today’s world especially in schools people base their lives off of how many people. Like their social media posts and feel goy from it when they get likes or hearts on their posts. I think social media is making people antisocial because it’s making adults and children insecure about themselves when people post hate comments for example. Most children and adults miss reading and understanding what people actually mean when a person says something because they forget actual communication skills and how it is to talk in person vs online because they don’t have the interactions they used to have with people. This is leading to depression increase of Suicidal rates and lowering the average age people commite suicid.
Org, “Human beings need face-to-face contact to be mentally healthy.” Social Media is lowering people’s self esteem because they can only see a certain side of these people’s lives. According to Dr. Gordon Flett, Canada Research Chair in Personality and Health, states “Social media is the bane of people’s happiness, We also have a tendency to believe how others describe themselves, which leads to false assessment — and sets us up for greater unhappiness.” They only show the good times, or the good pictures. Everything positive they show, so it makes you feel like the odd one out and less of a person then they are.
As a society, people tend to live in an age where social media has the equivalent or rather extraordinary significance as a face-to-face interaction. The way individuals interact with one another has evolved over time due to: technology and mass medium almost representing the bang of technology use. Websites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are designed to share photos, videos, thoughts, to connect with people and to spread awareness from politics to a daily update. Social media has both positive and negative effects such, it can help people engage and help people socialize, but it can also backfire and cage people to become antisocial and not gain the skills that are needed to have dialogue. There is no doubt that social media has
Social media can lead to many things such as cyberbullying, a person catfishing, or invasion of privacy. Many people tend to use social media as a way to bully people. Which isn’t a good thing bullying shouldn't exist at all. Not only that but people also tend to use social media to make a fake account to talk to someone or pretend to be someone else.
This does not mean social media is only harmful at all, Some may argue there are people who used their knowledge on social media to help others but it depends on the frequency of usage by the individual. “Others see more cons than pros. That's especially true for teens,”(Newspaper Source Plus) says Mike
The first negative impact of social media is that it leads to brain crashes. Which can lead to mental illness. Spending more time with using social media reduce the amount of using the brain in a good way. For example, using it became addiction some times. Several people are addictive social media, such as Facebook and Instagram.
While it is necessary to retain accounts on various sites in order to stay connected, it is essentially a platform to judge one another. I tend to construct my various social media profiles as a reflection of my true self. I love the idea of being able to connect with others on various platforms and bridge the social gaps all over the world, but I am apprehensive about participating too much on social media for fear of judgment. My social media accounts reflect the true me based on my information and presentation but they do not define me as a person. My presence on social media is not strong and this may cause others to perceive me as unapproachable or antisocial.
most of the community believes that social media is helping out society to grow and I believe that too. Yes, sure there are some drawbacks to it there is nothing in the world where there is no drawback to anything it is our decisions to get most out of it, social networking provide many researchers to a bigger society allowing them to reach their goal. Here are some reason why social media is very important to or life It helps us save a lots of time, if we have to send any message to our friend we don 't have to go to them and tell we can just use social media. social media society is a very big community we can spread our information in matter of seconds, if we want to find some things use google or other search engines we will find the answers in matter of seconds.
In the last twenty years, technology and social media have taken over the globe. Technology has enabled people to connect with each other; they can connect through email, text, or social networking sites. Since this phenomenon of being easily connected has occurred a significant amount of controversy has sparked. A few argue that social media is excellent while the majority of critics argue social media is having a negative effect on people. Two articles in which discuss the different effects of social media are “I Tweet, Therefore I am” and “The Upsides of Selfies: Social Media isn’t all bad for kids” by Peggy Orenstein and Kelly Wallace respectively.
So many people are on one network online, social media has essentially become a second world. That being said, social media should not be encouraged to the public. At first use, social media does not seem dangerous, but it is. These sites diminish its user’s privacy to the point that it is accepted (Anderson 1). Not only do social networks hurt us, but users use it in a way for emotional self-harm.
Social Media: Affects Relationships As technology progresses more and more, there have been great changes that have made our lives more easy and efficient. There are many advantages that technology has brought upon us, one in particular is the Internet. The Internet has allowed people to be connected quickly to information and be updated to the issues and happenings around us, but the social networks that have been invented to allow long distance connection have been resulting in negative outcomes for society and our generation. Social media gets in the way of building actual relationships, makes people become inauthentic about their lives and lowers their self-esteem, and has become a dangerous and threatening nature. During these days, it seems as if nobody can live without checking their social media accounts, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
There are still points that require being fixed, but the positive effects outweigh the negative ones. Social media is a very precious tool that can be used to meet new personalities, and allow people to be in touch with friends and families; it positively affects the world by empowering people to educate and work online and gives space for
In the fast developing contemporary world, it seems to be that people cannot spend a day without social media, despite the fact of its numerous negative effects. The vulnerable teenagers should limit the use of social media by spending less time on the Internet as it can cause a number of negative consequences: it can lead to health as well as social problems. Proponents, however, argue that social media changed lives to the better as it made communication easier and faster and there are no negative effects from social media. They might also say it is impossible to withdraw from the Internet at all. This may be true and their argument is valid, nevertheless, all the negative impacts on one’s physical as well as mental health and social life outweigh the mentioned advantages.
Said “shannon Poppito, a phychologist at baylor medical university in Dallas”states that when people spend more time in social media, they break off the relationship from real life end up feeling less connected with them selves. According to myself as an example of anti-social make us not confident when showing ourselves in front of others and cause confidence to decline. This is because social media users become lazy to learn to communicate real , just share and interect in the virtual world. For example when someone is in the cafe opening social media sites they often forget the time.
