The creative team at Publicis Russia were challenged to promote gun control. To do this, they wanted to see what would happen if they put guns in the hands of the everyday person. They told people to aim and shoot at someone in a courtyard filled with people, and little did they know, it was only an online simulation. The people on the screen were actors, and if someone actually shot at someone, fake blood would come on the screen showing the shooter what it would be like if they actually shot someone. The actors would then pop back up and a message appeared on the screen, “ Not everyone owns a gun responsibly”, “ but they’re still openly sold”. People clearly understood that something was “fake” about what they were doing, but pulled the trigger …show more content…
It was a very emotional campaign to be on board with, especially because the director actually filmed a fake shooting where I went to high school. This is why I found this campaign so inspiring. They took such an emotional topic in society and executed this concept for people to actually see how easy it is for a tragedy to happen. This campaign not only raised awareness through this clever tactic, but people began to realize actually how prominent of an issue gun violence is within society, while also generating dramatic results. It ties back to our readings this week, to emotionally connect with your audience. Thousands of people have been affected by gun violence and unfortunately, it is on the rise. They took an important, controversial topic and created an interactive campaign that really emphasized the effects of gun violence. AdWeek did point out that maybe this clever, inspiring idea might turn south. This campaign might actually promote violence by encouraging some deranged individuals to actually think this “fantasy” is real life, which might make violence seem “cool”. But, I still think Publicis Russia took an emotional topic, made it real, and increased awareness in a creative
Every time you look at the news there seems to be a new headline about the most recent mass shooting. With these shootings becoming more common many viewers are becoming desensitized making these murders in cold blood seem normal. In the article Broken Cannot Be the New Normal published in The Avion the author Victoria Jordan tries to persuade the readers that change needs to be made so that we as a society do not have to live in fear of being the victim of the next massacre. Although Jordan takes a stance on gun violence, her over-use of fallacies such as appeal to fear and pity as well as begging the question the left the article with inadequate evidence in addition she barely offers a solution to the problem that she clearly sees. While appeal to emotion can be an effective method to connect with your audience, Jordan however overuses emotion to the point it
He first tries to get at the reader's emotions by bringing up the Tragedy at Newtown throughout the article. Most people know that when they see Sandy Hook or Tragedy at Newtown they first thinks about the children that died at an elementary school from a school shooter. He tells the reader about the law that was up for a vote that would allow teachers to carry guns with more training, but ends that sentence with “It was approved the day before the shootings in Newtown” (cnn). Not only does he bring up Newtown, but brings up the Colorado theater shooting that happened. He states a quote from the Colorado governor in which he basically says that he was surprised that with all the people in the theater that no one had a conceal and carry and could have stopped the shooter.
He does not show in details the entire system. In fact, he let the audience to make judgments concerning the effectiveness of the gun control in the USA, but he just shows that this system does not work. As a result, Columbine massacres can occur frequently (Finn, 65-66). Many important subjects and issues involved with the massacre, gun violence, and today 's culture are discussed throughout the documentary. One of the subjects that the documentary focuses largely on is the idea that fear is being used as a tool to create consumption.
This is really cool because it teaches many young kids how too properly and safely shoot a bow and gun. Many people do not think that this is a good idea because it could lead to violence when the kid grows up. I personally think it is a good idea and it teaches the kids ethics on other thing like how to be safe around guns. In the article it talked about the relationship between the Boy Scouts of America and the National Rifle Association (Mechling, Jay). In the article they made it sound like only men could shoot guns and that is another reason people were against it because it made the young boys think they are better than girls.
To understand the extent of how common mass shooting and gun violence is in our nation and why it feels like the nations is numb to gun violence, president Obama in his last national, which he was addressing the gun violence tragedy at Umpqua Community College, Roseburg, Oregon, said, “The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it. We've become numb to this.” If the president expressed his feeling towards the frequency of gun violence tragedy and how predictable giving a national eulogy was, then it would be safe for me to assume that gun violence is a national issue that needs to be addressed and since nothing has changed so far, it is evident that the presidents speech is not as impactful towards law makers and the
I believe that the main point of the Parkland school shooting video was to show the audience that guns were bad for our community and to show all the damage that one person with a gun can do to a bunch of people. The intended audience for this video would be the general public and maybe even those who collect or frequently use guns. The clip used pathos in two different ways to influence the intended audience's opinion. The first way that pathos was used was that the clip played on fear. The whole situation of the school shooting was terrifying, both for the students and everyone hearing about it.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost their family and friends due to guns (Luckerson).” Former President, Barack Obama distributed a verbalization regarding the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting along with addressing many other gun violence incidents which have occurred in the past. Barack Obama delivered his speech, “New Gun Control Measures” on January 5, 2016, with the use of powerful pathos which appeals to the emotions of the audience. This was accompanied by enriching ethos which allows Barack to exploit his position, as president, to become more credible. While delivering his speech, Obama uses his authoritative glance, and elaborate hand motions to emphasize his points.
Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.
Personal Essay - Public Shootings Recently, there have been many tragedies in the world, such as shootings, bombings, and terrorist attacks. We all are affected differently by them, some more than others, but these events affect the way we live and how we act. The recent public shootings have affected my life and changed how I live it. The Sandy Hook Elementary and the Aurora movie theater shootings were a result of guns in the hands of the wrong people, and because of this, my life is different than my parents’ lives were when they were kids. Our world has become dangerous and I don’t feel safe anymore.
The recent media footage of the destruction of innocent, young lives re-ignites the gun reform debate again, and what we as a community can do to prevent another tragedy. The outpourings of grief and horror are becoming all too frequent in our society. What has gone wrong? Why do human beings feel the need to express their anger and disappointment with their lives by resorting to such extreme violence? The ramifications of easily accessible firearms are like opening a Pandora's Box.
Informative Speech Going Out with a Bang General Purpose: To inform. Specific purpose: To inform my audience about the causes of school shootings in America. Central Idea: The main causes for school shootings are easy access to guns, mental instability and trauma. INTRODUCTION I. (Attention Getter)
The political cartoon “Blood, Sweat, Tears” by Steve Breen focuses on the controversial topic of gun control in America. In order to emphasize the seriousness of taking action, Breen uses an emotional approach. He appeals to pathos to explain how these deaths have emotionally affected Americans throughout the country, and inform of how much effort the executive branch is putting in to limit the access of guns to the mentally ill. Breen utilizes a simplistic approach towards the details to gently remind his audience of the emotional impact that the gun shootings of the past few year have had on Americans.
How to reduce gun violence " In the 1960's, there was one school shooting. In the 1980's, there were 27. In the 1990's, there were 58. In the past decade, there have been over 120" (Hoehn).
Ever since the inception of this country 240 years ago, guns have been an integral part of the American identity; a sense of lawlessness, individualism, personal autonomy and freedom. They were the tools that liberated us, and gave us independence over a tyrannical, unrepresentative empire. However, in more recent years, these tools have been used more and more frequently in mass shootings, some of which are occurring at schools, targeting teachers and children. Since the infamous shooting at Columbine High School 19 years ago, we have had several shootings at schools, and we tend to get “thoughts and prayers”, a gesture with good intentions, but little actual progress made. This problem can be contributed to the increasing power of guns, and a lack of mental health coverage, gun
Problem Solution Paper 95% of people think that america needs stricter gun control laws, yet the amount of shootings in the past years has risen exponentially. Gun violence is a serious problem and the people of the United States have wanted to solve this problem this for a long time. If people feel scared to go to school (which should be a safe learning environment for all children and all ages) that is a problem, and it needs to be solved, or at the very least put in barriers to deal with the mental disabilities and amount of guns associated with this problem. There has been an exponential rise in shootings in America since the 20th century. In the 20th century there were 226 shootings, in the first 18 years of the 21st century there have been 211 shootings.
