The first time I saw Amherst College, it was the beginning of spring in 2016; the beauty of the rolling hills was breathtaking as I sat on Memorial Hill, warming from the sun become more and more envious of every student, staff and faculty member that walked by. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to turn that envy into motivation. After some research, it didn’t take long for me to notice Amherst’s strengths matched its beauty and to make the decision that I wanted to be a part of an institution that turns vision into action, as a front-line fundraiser. Amherst College promotes innovation and interdisciplinary education, creating profession-ready individuals with a drive for impacting change. I believe that with my passion and fundraising experience I would be a great addition to Amherst College Leadership Giving Team as the Development Officer. I have dedicated the past five years of my life to activism and nonprofit management, developing my skills in fundraising, communication, and designing and implementing donor relation strategies. While I am committed to my work, I believe that my true passion lies in higher education. I admire Amherst College because of its innovation, promotion of sustainability and cultural competency, and its ability to change the misconstrued idea that liberal …show more content…
I have experience in developing written and oral fundraising strategies including online campaigns and researching potential donors for the organization. I admire Amherst College Leadership Giving Team which has proven victorious in promoting equal opportunity for all qualified individuals. I want to promote and fundraise for an institution that is victorious in creating a diverse student body and giving equal opportunity despite cultural
Mount Holyoke college says, “we continue to embolden women to break boundaries, shake off limits, and take lead.” implying that women’s attendance at Mount Holyoke College will gain them better opportunities that will help women grow mentally and financially. Mount Holyoke decided to be a women’s university “by choice” Mount Holyoke says, “[w]e attract world-class faculty and students because we are different” (1). In this type of environment women tend to “challenge themselves academically, Immerse themselves in campus life, and seek out leadership roles” (2), In the future these three key points pay off. According to Mount Holyoke, women who attend their college “stand up, stand out, and stand together” (2).
The universities must be filled with talented and well-educated people in the United States. In order to achieve a more diverse environment, Bloomberg’s foundation, the American Talent Initiative, instills a goal: to increase the number of Pell Grant recipients attending college within ten years. Michael Bloomberg creates a coalition of colleges including private and public colleges to commit to being more diverse. Moreover, Jeffrey Valdespino Leal, a Stanford freshman, is an exemplar of a low-income student intermixing with the elite university students. Jeffrey Valdespino’s experience shows people that the middle class can achieve success at an Ivy League school.
Initiating and advocating change for students and the community without the expectation of being recognized is what has made me an HBCU All-Star. The moment I came to Nashville to attend the Illustrious Tennessee State University, I vowed to be an advocate for change and lead on and off campus. Countless hours and many sacrifices were made to ensure that my scholarship exemplified academic excellence. Extensive strategic planning and professional development was completed to ensure that my leadership was effective for my student body, local community, and the HBCU community at large. Humble and willing service to my community is what I’ve executed through my civic engagement in political and community affairs.
With the help of my fellow classmates, I conducted weekly evening school for the children living on the streets, or belonging to low socio-economics backgrounds. I am aware that Delta Sigma Pi is also highly active in giving back to the community, be it tirelessly dancing for 36 hours to raise awareness and funds for kids at the Riley Hospital or organizing an annual gala to raise funds for the American Cancer Research Society. My passion for giving back to the community could be beneficial in increasing the impact of Delta Sigma Pi’s philanthropic endeavors.
After graduating from MHS, the next challenge in my mission to ascend from my circumstances was to become the best student at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). With consideration of my mother not graduating high school, it was imperative and self- driving that I reward her sacrifices by excelling in my academic career. Eager to outperform, consequently, I earned the Smeal Merit Diversity Scholarship for three consecutive years (Freshmen-Junior) at Penn State. This prestigious scholarship is only awarded to the top five minority business students at Penn State. In addition to my academic successes, I became very active on campus and served as a leader at the top of four different campus-organizations.
Often times fundraising starts out strong in the fall, but then declines in the spring. To prevent this, I hope to revitalize fundraising in the spring by having incentives for donating. For example, if you raise $50, you can receive a hand written letter from your state’s Governor. These incentives will spark fundraising in the spring. Through new fundraising efforts, I know that we can surpass previous fundraising records and have the most successful year
Dear Broncos for Equality, I would like to express my ultimate gratitude on being selected to provide this new organization with a few recommendations in order to be a successful social justice organization at Cal Poly Pomona. Specifically, I will discuss the Black Panther Party (BPP), American Indian Movement (AIM), Justice for Janitors (JfJ), Gay Latinos Alliance (GALA), and The Young Lords and how each of the organizations faced their experiences of injustice regarding the issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Broncos for Equality would greatly benefit from knowing and applying some tactics these organization 's utilized to fight against oppression. The African American community had long since fought against their oppressors because
As a prospective college student, one looks for a wide variety of specific characteristics in a future home; A certain size, definitive mission statement, divergent student body, blossoming educational programs, and an abundance of opportunity were at the top of my list. I found all of these criteria to not only to be met by Drake University, but most were far surpassed. The institution seemed to be progressive and yet historic, accommodating to those for whom it was necessary while allowing vast amounts of freedom to all. Drake University appeared to be perfect in all regards, an utopia of equality. Shortly after moving onto campus, I discovered that my campus of bliss was not quite the fairytale story of impartiality I had been told.
I am able to take on many leadership roles and do them all with a smile! University of Dayton students seem to have a great school spirit, and I would like to add my ideas to build it even

I’ve noticed that being an African American woman places me below the totem pole automatically, placing two strikes again me. However, as a black woman attending a Historically Black College/University, in my heart, I strive to seek academic excellence and create a lasting impression on the world…starting with the community around me. My traditional values are deeply rooted in love, honesty, integrity and the desire to serve. I strongly believe in “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself”. I believe I have great qualities to offer such an organization
While attending St Joseph’s College I have taken leadership roles within my community and within the classroom. In my community, I have helped organize two teams to participate in the Breast Cancer Awareness walk and
A leader is able to gain an audience’s attention because of their personality, morality, and how they hold themself. It is important for a leader to be organized, compassionate, able to compromise but also be firm on what they believe, and be a person who people look up to and aspire to be. I was part of an organization called National Charity League and this organization helped grow women’s confidence, public speaking skills, time management, and organizational skills. Each month, each class holds meetings to plan and discuss projects that follow the class’s focuses. This past year Class of 2023 philanthropic focus is children, cultural focus is international food, and for leadership we are focusing on self care and reflecting on the NCL experience.
My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.
I don't look for much in a college except the possibilities they provide for the students. NYU seems like a good place to start my life as a college student with the opportunities NYU provides. I was surprised at the fact that NYU provides over 230 areas of studies for undergraduates and at the same time glad that NYU provides this many courses. As a student who has lived in a rural area for all my life, the ocean of courses is a blessing for me to experience what the world has to offer through NYU. I am ready to jump into what my rural life could not provide to me, and in addition, I was surprised at the student to faculty ratio because it is very similar to my highschool, so I would feel at home in class.
