Reflective Journal
In the third week of June, my colleagues Albee, Daniel and I went to Fangniuchang Hope School in a remote village in Yunnan. Twelve iPads were sent to that school last year without further instructions. Therefore we were going to upgrade the software and teach children and teachers to use iPads properly. In one day we had to give classes to all students, mainly introducing educational APPs. Fortunately, children were all well behaved, though appeared a bit shy to me. Everything went smoothly until a little boy approaching to us in the lunch hour. He hesitated for a while, standing outside of the classroom and sometime took a peep. Finally he walked towards us, and I felt there was something special because the boy was close to tears. To my surprise, he grabbed Daniel’s cloths and said, “I have a secret and I only want to tell you.” So they went out and talked. It turned out that the boy missed

It was the first time that I became a teacher, and I nearly wasted a chance to listen carefully to children’s worries and dreams. If Daniel did not try hard to make friends with students, we might never know the story of that little boy. And we would know so little about each other that this journey was just superficial. I wish I had walked out of my comfort zone earlier. It is not only because of the big influence on children mentioned above, but also for the sake of self-development. Rarely do we have the chance of getting to know children’s life in such remote area, neither do we communicate with them in depth. Thanks to my change of thought in the lunch break, in this trip I got to know many facts that beyond my expectation. For example, children can be satisfied so easily regardless of the poor facilities, and many of them got used to the hard life while strive for a better
With her drive and tenacity, D’Vonya funneled her desire for educational success down to the students and their families during her junior internship at S.A.N.D. Elementary School, Hartford, CT. She worked directly with the K-4 children and their families who were failing to come to school regularly or not progressing academically. D’Vonya stated, “Morally it bothered me to know many of these students couldn’t read, or write and were simply being ‘passed with exception’ to the next grade”.
In the book about John Smith’s “General history of Virginia, New England, and Summer Isles”, I found the journal interesting. The way Smith wrote in third person instead of first is different from most journals published. Smith’s work later on in the journal, reflects on someone else’s viewpoint on his life and reputation and I like that he used different sides to write about. Lastly, his journal showed the history that happened during that time period, such as the Indians, his life, Procantas, and Christianity. One thing I disliked about Smith’s work is the writing style he writes in.
Reflective Journal entry Unit 4 In today’s society, one of the primary objectives is to ensure that staffs working in the various department of the health sector have maximum protection, inclusive of the environment in which they live dwell and play. Therefore, adequate measures must be implemented to extenuated environmental and occupational hazards. The occupational and environmental health takes a multidisciplinary approach as it relates to the correct identification of diseases from exposure hazardous agents in the community of in the workplace.
A dedicated teacher could provide Daugherty a stress relieved school night and pleasing meetings with the school. To aid Paul Daugherty in his struggles, a dedicated teacher for his daughter, Jillian, would allow Daugherty a school night full of joy and accomplishment. Specifically, Daugherty’s frustration appears when Jillian loses a book or does not bring a book home from school, through extreme exaggeration, Daugherty expresses, ”On nights when the homework careened off track, I could lose touch with Jillian’s guts and determination. I’d fall down the rabbit hole and into despair” (136).
One teacher said, “None of us then thought too much about the hardships and sacrifices we made, but tried to do our very best to provide an education for the children we had the privilege to have under our care” (Wilson 129). This shows how some teachers viewed their roles in the kids’ lives. Teachers were role models for their younger students and were able to greatly influence their
The book Choice Words by Peter H Johnson challenges teachers to think about the words that they say because teachers have such a powerful influence on how children see themselves. Teachers undoubtedly are a very influential part of child’s life. The words that teachers say (and don’t say) influence a child way beyond the time that he or she is in their classroom. For example, my daughter is in the second grade; she has vivid memories of all of her teachers. She remembers their character and how they made her feel.
After numerous e-mails to each other, Mr. Bowe and I decided to schedule the interview in his classroom for Friday, October 9th. Analogous with the majority of those that enter the teaching profession, Mr. Bowe’s desire to better the lives of students began with a fundamental inspiration: his teachers. Teachers are, in one word, influential. A great teacher inspires their students to love learning.
Consequently, newer technologies and their implementation in people’s lives allow for such an immediate response they give to the user of the technology. In “Project Classroom Makeover,” Davidson discusses how she had her class at Duke try to come up with a new inventive way of using the new technology of the time, an iPod. Davidson discussed this when she stated, “we would be giving out free iPods to every member of the entering first-year class, there were no conditions. We simply asked students to dream up learning applications […] and we invited them to pitch their ideas to the faculty” (49). Giving these students free range on the application of the devices for an educational purpose, it provided them an environment where they can use their individual strengths to solve a problem at hand.
Everyday, she excels in her job of caring for the children and making a difference in the community. Due to her kindness she would always bring thoughtful gifts for the children. She doesn 't have to do the classes with the children everyday but she continues to do it like Sylvia says “school supposed to let out in the summer I heard, but she dont never let up” (Bambara 96). The lessons learned while earning her degree has lead her to becoming a positive role model in the children 's lives; nonetheless, teaching them lessons that may never learn from others. She shows her passion in the story by saying “she said, it was only her right that she take responsibility for the young ones’ education.
I started doing my field Experience in Lime Kiln Elementary school where I shadowed Mr. Mikalov, a fifth grade teacher, When I first walked into his classroom it was so colorful and full of artworks, student works and inspirational quotes I felt happy walking into his classroom so I would imagine what a fifth grader would feel like. Mr.Mikalov was very generous in showing me around the classroom where they have their group work, reading area on the rug. He showed me the schedule they follow every week, they do math every day from 12:13 to 12:55 and have lunch every day at 11:26- 12:08 and off course I took a picture of it to know when and what they are doing that time. Mr.Mikalov introduced me to the principal who is very nice and welcomed
This job really taught me about the importance of children having a routine to follow as well as the impact teachers can have on a child’s life. After my first year in college, I realized that I wanted to gain more experience with children of all ages. Shortly after,
He narrates how he could help students and parents solve their problems; including a teenager coming out of the closet, a girl being sexually abused, and a kid addicted to heroin. Besides helping and keeping secrets for others, Smith was also struggling with his secret of being dependent and under the constant influence of drugs. The students found Smith more accessible and reliable than any other authoritative figure in the school, which obligated their relationship to become more intimate and authentic. With Smith’s experiences the audience can truly see how during the last years of a teenagers education and transition into the real world, the person the students will grow into can be greatly influenced by the teachers. The purpose that Smith conveys through this article is to prove that as a teacher, his job is not only to teach his students a certain subject but also guide them through such significant moments of their
The first day of school was the beginning of the notes to self Cassandra would pen in pain to herself. If she ever had children, they would be registered for school. Mrs. Russell, one of the teacher’s aides, became her new best friend as she took Cassandra by the hand and led her to the classroom. She made the students feel welcomed and appreciated. God used her to take away the fear of being left alone in the great big world of elementary school.
I felt that the children were very well behaved than most children. It was a bit shocking. All of them were extremely respectful of their teacher. I am excited to continue observing this class the next couple weeks. Being in an actual classroom makes me super excited for my
iPad. Schools could also consider getting rid of old computer labs, which could save electricity and space. The rooms that were once used for the computer labs, can now be used for new classrooms. The iPad can also help kids interact with others and it can make learning more fun for those who normally do not enjoy school. The iPad gives students the chance to be creative and reach their full potential in their education.
