Healthy People 2020 recently adopted a new adolescent health objective. This objective encompasses the needs of the Campbelltown community holistically. Adolescent Health (2016) explains that public health and social problems such as smoking, substance abuse, suicide and obesity can begin at this critical developmental stage. Throughout the United States, several programs have been developed such as substance abuse interventions and mental health resources, among others (Adolescent Health, 2016). The community of Campbelltown could benefit from this model of program when it comes to health promotion and disease prevention.
Every 10 years the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issues a comprehensive document of goals and objectives to provide information and guidance to organizations and agencies addressing public health issues. The newest report, Healthy People 2020, established several new objectives to broaden thinking about populations in need. For example, some of these new objectives specifically focus on the health of the adolescent and lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender populations (Chicago Department of Public Health [CDPH], 2011). These objectives were not included in the Healthy People 2010 report. Technology has also played a part in the overwhelming size of the Healthy People 2020 report, in that the online format is

The role of a nurse as a patient advocate is an important one. The main purpose of this role is to respect patient decisions and boost patient autonomy. Nurses must advocate for their patients and facilitate optimal health, functioning, and wellness. These patient advocacy responsibilities include assuring that patients understand their medical diagnosis and treatment regimen, listening to the patient's’ concerns, and respecting their healthcare decisions (Ronnebaum & Schmer, 2015). Providing patient advocacy will continue to enhance healthcare encounters and

Today, On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, I attended a beginning of the school year healthcare meeting. The annual meeting was conducted by one of the school nurses and it included all of the second grade teachers. Before today’s meeting I had never attended a health care meeting, but I certainly knew of the importance of having a good relationship and communication between school nurses and educators. A teacher’s responsibility includes so many variables including and foremost a student’s care and safety. Additionally, School nurses help educators in ensuring and caring for student’s and their healthcare needs.
A nurse is a manager. Nurses need to know how to delegate activities to different members of the health care team as well as know what each team member is allowed to do. Also, it is the nurse’s responsibility to provide a safe nursing environment for the patient and staff. Finally, therapeutic communication is a key feature that a nurse must
The nursing process is a series of organized steps designed for nurses to provide excellent care. Learn the five phases, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating.
Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
The goals of nursing profession are involve ethical and protecting patients from harm (Kopala& Burkhart, 2005). Care should be focused on preventing disease rather than treating illnesses by working as a team and promoting healthy behaviors, resulting in patients having better health outcomes. In addition, early detection is a dynamic aspect of health promotion that is vital to preventing the chronic disease burden. In my opinion, nurses need to focus on educating patients and family members more than simply administering a medication or performing a procedure. Providing education about health to family members could be beneficial and passed on to people in the
Specialization – of course all of this have one area that we wanted to specialize. For me it is necessary for creating a professional growth and continuous learning.
My values of nursing shape my practice as a nurse and are affected by my views on health. In my eyes, health is not solely related to medical illness and disease. I believe that health encompasses various aspects within all
