Life has its twists and turns, but my overall life goal is simple, help others. I want to make an impact on others life, even if it is a small change. For instance, being able to hold a pencil is the difference between a student being able to graduate from Kindergarten and not be able to continue on to first grade. Being a Pediatric occupational therapist will help me make an impact on children at a very young age. Even small changes can have a large impacts, which is why I want to be that change for others.
As a survivor of childhood cancer, I can recall the frustration that I felt having limited independence during treatment. After months of being restricted in everything I do, the pure bliss I felt walking down the hospital hallway to get my own Jell-O is something I will treasure forever. In that moment, I remember feeling confident for the first time that I was going to beat cancer. Six months later my scans came back clear. Now, ten years later, I am ready to help other people achieve their independence through the field of occupational therapy.
The position also is a segue into my current educational goals, which are geared toward a Human Services Degree. Over the past twelve years I have worked in the health care field. While working in the various jobs I have had several administrative assistant duties, which included patient intake, data entry/analysis, inventory management, etc. As previously stated, this position consists of patient care and administrative both are predominant in my career growth. I have always wanted to help people and to help them better their lives, but I never could figure out how I could make that passion a reality, until the day I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at age eleven. After that rough period in life, I learned how I could help other people. I could listen to them and try to help them better understand themselves. My college plan would be to earn a bachelor, and master degree in Psychology to become a Behavior Analyst.

The Profession of Social Work as a Career Goal Graduating from high school, I have always had a passion working with kids. I never put into thought exactly what I wanted to do with kids, all I knew was that I wanted to work with kids. At first, my career choice was to become a midwife. Currently, I work for South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD). I am an Assessment and Career Exploration Specialist and also a Job Preparedness Instructor. While I enjoy my current role, I feel the need to carry out a more significant function in the rehabilitation process.
