Roughing filters are used for water pre-treatment. Roughing filter consists of several layers of filter medium. Filtration tests showed that roughness and shape of the filter media have an influence in the efficiency of the filter (Nkwonta and Ochieng, 2009). Gravel, sand, coconut husk or burnt bricks can be used as a filter media. Roughing filter helps lessen the pathogens in the water by separating the solid from it, thus causing it to be stranded and be pushed at the top of the filter (in a vertical roughing filter). The filter that will be used is a vertical roughing filter with a downward flow. The study will have the same setup as a roughing filter, except for the additional layer(s) - lemon and banana peel - that will be put for the experiment. Compared to the study conducted by Nkwonta and Ochieng, only the turbidity of the treated water will be tested. The ability of the two peels to filter lead and copper may also be tested. There are two kinds of roughing filter- horizontal and vertical. In the study conducted by Nkwonta (2010) entitled “A comparison of horizontal roughing filters and vertical roughing filters in wastewater treatment using gravel as a filter media,” the efficiency of vertical and horizontal filters were
