Martin Luther King Jr stated that “The objective of education is to educate one to think intensively and to think critically. Aptitude plus character-that is the objective of proper education.” (Aurentz, n.d) Education is considered as an edge to have in life because it can be used as a powerful weapon in achieving success and victory. Teachers are given this task to uphold and are responsible in shaping up the mind of students through the magic of teaching. Students are considered to be the future of a country and teachers play a pivotal role in educating them. Teachers can vary in their quality of teaching in the aspect of attitude, knowledge and skills. Ultimately, even with the different skills present in teachers, their goal remains mutual which is to aid students to achieve their goals in life. The type of relationship that occurs among teachers and students plays a crucial role towards student’s development. According to Liberante (2004), teacher- student relationship is a powerful tool as it is able to cultivate a sense of belonging within students which leads them to be more involved in classroom activities. Camp (2011) defines teacher-student relationship as the formal interpersonal interaction between an authority and a subordinate regularly. Teaching is a process that requires communication as it involves transmitting of message both ways between students and teachers. Failure in transmitting the message as a
In the video Building Relationships: Share Passion with Students, Mr. Van Dyck shows us what it means to be a teacher that models a passion for learning by showing interest in your students. Mr. Van Dyck connects with his students in ways that allow him to take interest in his students. When students see that you show interest towards them and care about their education, then they develop more interest to learn. Mr. Van Dyck connects with individual students by taking interest in them, he challenges himself to find a special interest in each one of them, and he also find ways in which he can see himself in them. This video also shows how you can draw on some of your own personal experiences to better understand and connect with your students;
Build positive relationships with students will help establish a more comfortable classroom environment. Michie have put a great amount of effort at trying to get to know his students on a more personal level, such as through individual home visiting and personal questionnaires about each student’s likes and dislikes about school. In order for students to feel that the information is relevant to them, teachers should make connections and relate to real life examples. Michie uses his past classroom experiences to connect to his students and further sparks class discussion. Michie would try to relate to what the students were going through in their lives to get to know them better.
A higher education pushes individuals to think, question and explore new and valuable ideas. An excellent education teaches students how to credibly think and prioritise when learning. David Wallace, who gave the Kenyon commencement speech, quoted, “[Learning how to think] means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience”. In his speech, Wallace is endorsing the idea that a higher education doesn't just throw knowledge at students, but it teaches them how to selectively compose their thoughts and construct a meaning from knowledge. Wallace also makes the point that individuals need to learn to adjust their “natural default setting” to become less self-centered.
There has been a multitude of famous individuals that have changed the course of human history over the years. With their work being the source of inspiration of many to simply having a likeable, repeatable demeanor, there is no doubt that to be regarded in that special collective of individuals. One of the most famous civil rights leader that advocated for 13 years, Martin Luther King Jr., discertation called, “The Purpose of Education,” that brings awareness to the importance of education and its overall relevance in tepid year of 1947. Dr. King brings clarity to his opinion in the beginning of his paragraph stating, “It seems to me that education has a two-fold function to perform in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY High School, the Secondary level of education is facing very harsh problems. The personality, attitude, emotional stability, morale, commitment towards work of a teacher determines the quality of education. The Secondary Education Commission (1952) rightly points out "We are convinced that the most important factor in the contemplated educational reconstruction is the teacher, his personal qualities, his educational qualifications, his professional training and the place that he occupies in the school as well as in the community. Reports of Kothari Commission (1964) says that “Of all the different factors which influence the quality of education and its contribution to national development, the quality, competence, and character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant”. This statement reiterates the importance of teachers and their attitudes.
Education is interconnected with every single strand of the economy, laws, jobs, research… I believe that education is not only one of the most important factors in a development of a country but instead, it has a greater significance than other factors. First and Foremost, Education is the foundation of our society. It gives us the power of knowledge and the power of assisting others. Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapons which you can use to change the world – The Former
Due to indiscipline situation students arrive late for class, are not punctual for the classes or simply bunk classes as the class is not very interesting or rather as a teacher we are unable to create interest in the class .This may be a result of lack of lesson planning .At times effective management of time is also overlooked. Non verbal cues like body language and communication skills also play a major role in making the class effective. Problems of Classroom Management can be overcome by being prepared for class, motivating the students, providing a comfortable learning environment, building students’ self esteem, being creative and imaginative in daily lessons. A teacher should not carry personal problems to the class by being impulsive.

School and teachers can influence the extent and quality of learning for all students. Teacher’s beliefs, practices and attitudes are important for understanding and improving educational processes. They are closely linked to teachers’ strategies for coping with challenges in their daily professional life. Educators have control over numerous factors that influence motivation, achievement and behaviour of students. They are turning around their approach into a focus on creating positive school climate and responsive classroom as part of holistic quality education based on child rights where there is effective teaching and classroom management, thus enhancing students’ learning experiences.
There are certain said and unsaid rules and regulations that teacher and student follow. For example the student is aware that he or she has to give respect to the teacher and they know that there is a certain way they have to sit in class while being taught or for that matter standing up from their places greeting the teacher when they enter the class. The teacher knows that there is a particular way to address the class or help a student out. The teacher knows that the only way she or he can efficiently convey information or instructions is if the students are able to understand him or her thus it is very important for a mutual understanding to be established between them. The purpose of education is to create the “catalyst”, - the interest, the imagination, the self-confidence, the enthusiasm for further knowledge that helps a person grow beyond what they believe they can be. Education should help develop skills and knowledge, so students can be productive members of society. The more knowledge you have, the more opportunities you have in life. I think back to my childhood and the teachers that made an impact in my life. I want to be that catalyst for students.
But, among all the above factors, the teacher has the most important role for efficient and quality learning. Markley (2011) stated that Good and qualified teachers are essential for efficient functioning of educational systems and for enhancing the quality of learning. A good teacher and actions to be taken on his part in the classroom play a vital role in provoking effective and efficient learning on the part of the students. Parents trust their children to be taught and educated at school, to be hoped that they will become good and qualified human beings. A teacher takes an important role in motivating the students to get their success in their life.

Teachers are an indispensable figure in the classroom and are called as leaders of the next generation. Everything done in the classroom helps develop children into the citizens they will become. It is essential to understand that students have difference in need, ability, and success rate, but they are all special in their own way.
