Discussion on Multiple Regressions The findings for the regression analyses showed that truancy was significantly correlated with performance, school environment, and socio-economic status. However, there was no significant correlation between truancy and family. Performance H0 There is no relationship between truancy and performance. H1 There is relationship between truancy and performance. The results indicate that the alternative is accepted and the Null hypothesis is rejected. This suggested that truancy and performance have a positive relationship which can be seen in table 16. Based on the data it can be concluded that certain indicators in performances such as, missing class because teacher ignores students, students feeling …show more content…
This leads to student being forced to miss school because of too many suspensions. Also, students avoiding classes they disliked and students being bullied by their peers has an interaction which resulted in students leaving school without permission from the teachers. Socio-Economic Status H0 there is no relationship between truancy and socio-economic status. H1 there is a relationship between truancy and socio-economic status. The Null hypothesis is rejected and accepts the alternative. The relationship between socio-economic status and truancy is a weak positive one. The results supported Bryant et al??, which indicated that families from low socio-economic background are likely to display truancy. The students who had challenges stay in school because of financial problems lead to students that persistently keep away from class and being forced to miss school because of too many suspensions. The result is shown in tables 10 and 11. The regression results indicated that when there is an increase in the number of financial challenges occur, the more likely the number of students earning money through illegal activities would result in students persistently keeping away from class, and students leaving school without permission from the teachers.
1Dear Principal Molony, The donated money should be used in the eight grade math and reading classrooms because it will improve the focus and attention of the students. The students' self esteem will go up which will let them participate and do more to benefit the classrooms. They will also be less antsy because they will be focused on work, and not worrying about their uncomfortable seats. Here is what the seats are going to be like: there will be three couches, four to five bean bags, three wiggle seats, one recliner and two big tables the wiggle seats will go on the table chairs.
(Document 7). This shows that children were working rather than going to school. Instead of getting an education, some kids were providing extra money for their family. This also showed that the hours children worked were long and allowed no time for other activities. Another example is, “Lots of children (…, not at school,[money] issue)”(document 6).
While, on paper, lower class schools can look similar to upper class schools in terms of their state funding, demographics, and other factors, the educational outcomes of their respective students are wildly divergent. At the heart of these trends is the geographic sorting of the classes into separate residential areas. Because of the difference in environment that results, a school’s location can have tremendous effects on performance. In fact, the correlation between high school achievement and community median income is even stronger than the correlation between achievement and parental income (Putnam 165). In high-income schools, the number of AP courses, the variety and number of extracurriculars, and the availability of formal assistance available far outstrip that of lower-income schools, partly due to parental involvement and financial support.
The school to prison pipeline is an organized nationwide system consisting of local, state and federal education. It is also formed to drive students out of school and into the criminal and juvenile systems, which may result in students dropping out of school early. The school to prison pipeline mainly targets students who are of color and those who struggle with some form of disability. This system is disturbing because, there is nothing being accomplished by removing students from education, which will eventually cause them to struggle before adulthood and even after they reach this point of life. The school to prison pipeline is detrimental because, students may drop out of school, be subject to relying on government assistance to survive, and disregard the decision to further their education because of past experiences.
53). The research used students of all ages, races, sex, and sexual orientation and identity. The subjects were not chosen based off any specific criteria other than the fact that they attend the public school system within the United States (p. 53). The study was carried out through analyzing public records data, such as the U.S. Department of Education for Civil Rights, in order to determine the number of students suspended within a time period, within what grades were they suspended in, and the reason for their suspension (p. 53-54). McCarter also incorporated research from various authors into her own in order to draw accurate conclusions of the negative consequences that zero-tolerance policies, high-stakes testing, school climate, the increased presence of SROs and their adverse effects on students (p.
So, knowing all the negative results that come from getting an education in the terrible conditions of these schools, many families who have a low socio- economic status try to avoid it all together. However, these families’ resources are scarce and their options are quite few. They could try paying for a private school, which can be very costly, or take their chances in
Most areas with low income or poor housing tend to not live in areas with good schools systems. Poor communities tend to not have the money to fund schools for better education sources like teachers, equipment or school trips. Segregated schools may feature a higher disciplinary or crime rate as well as lower graduation rates and SAT scores. Studies have proven that police must interfere more often in segregated schools for violence and to help assist for disciplinary actions.
The dataset used in the analysis is the grades.dat; it was used to analyze the performance of the students in the GPA and the final. The dataset includes information collected from the survey of 105 students and includes variables such as performance and demographic variables. The variable GPA measures the performance
Teachers can compare data between separate schools or different, but similar students, to try
In every school there are set policies and procedures so that all people working within the school are aware and stick to the same rules. Consistency is imperative. All adults working in the school would be : teaching staff, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, kitchen staff, governors, after school staff and temporary staff. There are many policies in schools that children and staff should be aware of.
Furthermore, her data shows that required attendance does not guarantee high achievement in courses. St. Clair concluded that low achievement in a course is usually due to a number of factors and is not dependent
Shockingly, the main cause of their mental illnesses is because of school, including grades. Students who attend school more often actually get high-average grades, in contrast to the ones who are always absent (Horton). In addition, depression and anxiety heavily affect their performance in school. “Extreme anxiety, severe clinical depression, obsessive compulsive order attention deficit disorder… are illnesses that are related to memory loss are examples of such dysfunctions that may lead to procrastination,” says Brandon Gaille, a psychology researcher. Again, procrastination is one reason why students fail to do work.
C. Analysis In this chapter, I will make critical analysis on the results of the classroom observation with my opinion. 1. Teacher’s Classroom Management a. Managing students to pay attention to the lesson According to Warfield (2016) mentioned that classroom surrounding very affects to student performance.
Why should we stop bullying? “I would rather be a little nobody, than to be an evil somebody.” ― Abraham Lincoln (GoodReads, n.d.). Bullying is a major problem that we haven’t been able to stop, bullying has been exceeding every year, and it is the time to make it stop!
Several studies have been done to identify problems that affects student’s academic performance. The students’ academic performance depends on a number of socio-economic factors like students’ presence of trained teacher in school, teacher-student ratio, attendance in the class, sex of the student, family income, mother’s and father’s education, , and distance of schools (Amitava Raychaudhuri,
