In the Renaissance, the world changed forever. New thinking about humans being the most significant rather than religious figures would have been unheard of in the Middle Ages, but now in this new period, the world has begun to accept this. These new ideas led to them being present in art, leading to a new beginning for art. In “The Last Days of the Renaissance & The March to Modernity” by Theodore Rabb, he discovers that what occurred in the Renaissance changed art permanently. He said, “The new artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of the new age .... Art began thriving in this period, and humans learned more about themselves and their place in the world. The Renaissance began in Italy but quickly spread throughout Europe. Art and architecture were two big growth points, as many wealthier people commissioned much more artwork and architecture for themselves. Some important figures in the Renaissance were Martin Luther, who helped to kickstart the Renaissance by challenging the Catholic Church, Leonardo Da Vinci, a painter and inventor, and Michelangelo, who was mainly a sculptor but also painted the roof of the Sistine Chapel. The Renaissance altered people’s understanding and appreciation of humans due to increased emotion and detail in art, people engaging in more human-like activities in art, and people discovering our place in our solar system and the

In the Middle Ages, the thought was that the universe and the solar system revolved around our Earth because, without any actual evidence, it was what felt right to people. However, a new idea, backed by math, was formed in the Renaissance by Nicolaus Copernicus, an astronomer. He found that the solar system revolves around the sun, not the Earth. This evidence helps to confirm how the Renaissance changed people’s understanding and appreciation of humans because people began to understand further how our world works and what is beyond us.
