It implies that since time is displaced into “broken syllables” and the past is disconnected into fragments. The “recorded time” would not give a coherent account of his deeds, but a stutter of “broken syllables”, akin to “a tale told by an idiot”. There is barely any solace in reminiscencing the past as all the things done in the past will eventually lead up to nothingness. The soliloquy warns the audience that the negligence of our own insignificance against life and fate would chance
“That meant, of course, I was to die. Sooner than others, obviously. 'But,' I reminded myself, 'it's common knowledge that life isn't worth living, anyhow.' And, on a wide view, I could see that it makes little difference whether one dies at the age of thirty or threescore and ten-- since, in either case, other men will continue living, the world will go on as before” (p. 114). The theme of absurdity appears due to the fact that the majority of people don’t go on living their lives believing no one will remember their existence.
According to Social Investment Theory, proposed by Roberts,Wood, and Smith in 2005, they found that adults’ responsibilities such as family and work, may contribute to the causes of personality change in middle adulthood (as cited in van Aken, et al., 2006). Furthermore, Erikson (1950) indicated that adults during the period of middle age are facing the developmental stage of reaching out to “generativity”, beneficial the next generation, or “stagnation”, which remain locked in their current situations (Ciccarelli & White, 2012, p.331). Koski and Steinberg (1990) reported that midlife concerns in the domains of marital relationships, work and also child fostering. Because as children of middle-aged adults grow older and gradually become adults themselves, opportunities for parental control decreased (as cited in van Aken, et al., 2006). Besides that, Roberts, Helson, and Klohnen (2002) concluded that adults who perceived more marital tensions (lake of commitment and shared valued) and became parents, husbands or wives increased in social responsibility (a facet of conscientiousness), whereas divorce or death of spouse was associated with neuroticism and lost of a job was also decreased in emotional stability and conscientiousness (as cited in van Aken, et al., 2006).
The heroic efforts by Winston and Julia were completely thwarted. Winston had finally shown signs that he could be a hero. But they were ruined by O’Brien. Julia and Winston are forced to separate and then they are both subject to torture. The downfall of Winston begins at this point, any heroic signs that had begun to sprout out of Winston were utterly destroyed.
Before he vanishes from the text, he has given up making any impact on the world or lives around him: “Decisions are never really made—at best they manage to emerge, from a chaos of peeves, whims, hallucinations and all-round assholery. […] It does annoy him that he can be so divided, so perfectly unable to come down on one side or another” (GR 802). Since he does not support any side, Slothrop is described as one of “the glozing neuters of the world” (GR 802). Historically, for Puritans neuters are people “that halt betweene two opinions […] the Lord abhorres such lukewarme tame fooles” (Hooker qtd. in Miller 58), and whose “‘[d]eadness of heart’ was the most insupportable curse” (Miller 58).
We ignore it, we do not realize it and we certainly do not want to come to terms with it but at the end of the day, irrespective of how we, humans, feel about it, the passage of time is inevitable. Time is taken for granted, it is not something we pay much attention to in our everyday lives – most of us cannot even afford to do so. Our lives are slow, as is the process of realizing that we are gradually being absorbed into oblivion, disappearing bit by bit in our own time and turning ourselves into mere memories that in the grand scheme of things are virtually irrelevant. The Swimmer by John Cheever is a short story that, in an incredibly accurate manner, illustrates how the neglect of reality can impair a person’s judgment and understanding of time, and negatively influence their lives. Perhaps, the larger idea the story points to is that regardless of how hard we try to overlook it, we cannot prevent time from passing – it simply is not within the boundaries of human capabilities.
I shall either be always feeble and of no prowess, or I am too young, and have not reached my full strength” (Odysseus, 312 line 130-134 ), within this part of the extract showed a state of self-doubt. He, Telemachus, created excuses as why
He also uses absolutes in comprehending. In his mind if he can’t absolutely comprehend it, then it must not be real. This mindset of absolutes works in making his ideology sound correct but wrong in reality, since we don’t live in absolutes, we live in a world full of gray areas. Parmenides is a monist. He believes everything is apart of a whole.

The main aim of my junior thesis is to analyse the contemporary situation of the popularity concerning Harry Potter films and book series. The side aim of my junior thesis is to investigate the preference, attitudes and opinions of respondents regarding the life story of Harry Potter. The next partial aim is to explore the impact Harry Potter have had on people. For the sake of acknowledging my partial aims and the main aim I have decided to compromise a questionnaire for several groups of respondents. According to my preset aims of my experiment, I have chosen a combination of a cognitive, descriptive and causal research.
