The black folk were freed by the abolition of slavery, yet this new freedom was not so. Ther identity was forever fractured between black and American, and even after they internalized the whites’ perspectives of them, they still wanted to be both without the disadvantages and racism. They were degraded, dehumanize, and shamed for their lack of education and job skills.

Jackie Robinson was the first African-American baseball player to participate in Major League Baseball in the United States. He played professionally for the Brooklyn Dodgers and broke down the color barrier in baseball. Major League Baseball commemorates Jackie Robinson every year on April 15, Jackie Robinson Day.

We all know and learn about the famous Dr. King and what he did, but do we actually follow up his role in our own lives? I know that I personally am very thankful for him because I have many friends who are colored and would be treated differently today if he didn’t step into action. We need to be more like Dr. King and live out his dream in our own lives by fighting hate with love, inspiring others to do good, and being good leaders.

George Washington is one of the most well-known American figures throughout history, therefore, he is taught to kids at a very young age. He did countless things to help America and its inhabitants. Washington was one of the many influential figures throughout time and led America to victory when it was fighting for its independence in the Revolutionary War.

Over the course of the American history, black people were oppressed and treated unfairly. A few ways that society treated black people is by segregating them from white people, beating them up, and taking advantage of them. As a consequence, African Americans grew up in an environment were limited in their abilities, had hatred towards the white, and had a constant judgment from white people. These factors contributed towards the way society viewed African Americans, flawed, uneducated, and poor. Yet, a notable person who overcame these obstacles and made the most out of his experiences was Malcolm X. He made a dramatic change not only in American history but in African American rights.
