Leroy Jethro Gibbs is a fictional character in the show NCIS. Gibbs is a former Gunnery Sergent, Marine Corps Sniper, and after his time in the Marines he became a special agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Gibbs served many tours in Iraq during his time as a marine and was even wounded in Desert Storm. Gibbs can be seen as a sheepdog because of his time served as a sniper in the Marines but also his dedication to protecting other soldiers as a special agent for NCIS. During one of Gibbs tours his wife and daughter were killed by a Mexican cartel leader. Gibbs tracked down the leader of the cartel and killed him. The Fed Five were a group of highly accomplished NIS Agents assigned to highly classified cases. Gibbs was chosen to be in the Fed Five due to his military background and his accomplishments as an NIS Agent. Around 1996 Gibbs began some undercover work for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service or NCIS formerly known as NIS, he was sent to Europe and then Moscow as an undercover agent. Operation Desert Storm is also known as the Persian Gulf War, the war started when Iraq's president Saddam Hussein ordered for an invasion on Kuwait in 1990. Due to Husseins threat Saudi Arabia and Egypt got the United States involved in hopes of helping Kuwait, Saddam Hussein refused to retract his army from Kuwait, so Operation Desert Storm began. Operation Desert Storm lasted for 42 days (about 1 and a half months), on the last day President Bush retracted the United States Army and called for a cease fire. General Colin Powell was one of the generals during the Gulf War he states “Our strategy to go after this [Iraqi] army is very simple. First we’re going to cut it off, and then we’re going to kill it” (Operation desert storm). Around 10,000 Iraqis were killed and around 203 American soldiers were either wounded or killed in the Gulf war. Many American soldiers were wounded in Desert Storm, In the television show NCIS Gibbs was one of the Marines that was wounded.
