Art was a major part of the renaissance period and many people became artists. They were not thought to be special even though they created some of the grandest monuments in history. They were usually educated people in the middle class. Architects usually became artists. Some other artists known as craftsmen were usually poorer artists. Craftsmen worked in small workshops with apprentices and one or two slaves. Many of the most famous artworks were created in the renaissance period such as the ‘Mona Lisa’. The Mona Lisa is one of todays most famous artworks and the artist (Leonardo da Vinci) epitomized the term ‘the renaissance man’. He was also an architect, inventor and student along side being an artist.
