Essay On Nelson Mandela's Fight For Equality

They impacted the world with their big efforts. Mandela was a leader in African National Congress. The story says that “he was in a political party that opposed South Africa’s policy of racial segregation.” Mandela became the world’s best-known political prisoner. In the story it says, “he was sentenced to life prison, but he never gave up.” In 1990 he was released, and became South Africa’s first black president.

Malcolm X and Nelson Mandela were such influential people whose societies helped mold them into who they became. Both Malcolm X and Mandela lived in societies that had a legal system of oppression on blacks. In the United States, the KKK was very prominent while Malcolm X was growing up. The Ku Klux Klan advocated for white supremacy and white nationalism and terrorized groups they opposed, such as blacks. Even before Malcolm was born, he and his family experienced oppression from the Klan.

American citizens remember him today mainly for his bold oppositions to slavery. This man drastically changed the course of history when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This document permanently abolished slavery. "The freedom that was won for so many black Americans in that war permanently enshrined the memory of Abraham Lincoln as one of our greatest presidents in the hearts and minds of all Americans" (Stone 8). Certainly a strong and brave man would be needed to lead a country that is in warfare.

Andrew Jackson and John Ross are two important historical figures when it comes to American democracy. When the United States was in a major constitutional crisis, these two men led the way back to greatness. They had quite a few things in common but they were two completely different people. Andrew Jackson is a person that we all know, or at least we think we know him (p. 1). He was both a general and a president, plus, he is on the twenty dollar bill; however, there is more to him than just that.

Malcolm X his birth name Malcolm Little is a fine a example of a leader and has most of these leadership qualities. Malcolm X was a Muslim minister who was also African American. He was a activist for human rights, Malcolm was a bold and courageous spokesperson for blacks to have rights,Malcolm X declared America “white America” to have the most harshest of terms for it’s tenacious treatments against African Americans.In the year 1946, he was sentenced to prison because he was caught breaking and entering. When he was incarcerated, he was chosen to become a member of the Nation of Islam. This is when he changed his birth name from Malcolm Little to Malcolm X.

NELSON MANDELA Nelson Mandela is one of the influence people in the 20th century politics. He was the first black president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 and elected by fully representative democratic election. He was also a politician, an activist, fighting against HIV/AIDS in Africa, promoting global peace and South African anti apartheid revolutionary. One thing that he did for the Africans and affects the world was about to end the apartheid, a system that try to separated the races of black skin over white skin people in South Africa. Because of him right now there is no differentiate between those people again.

Also SNCC, which used to have white members purged them all so that the African Americans can do things themselves without the help of any white men.The movements that were upfront with stopping voting discrimination were most successful and gained support nationwide for its goals and objectives. A year later segregation was outlawed by the Omnibus Civil Rights Act. In the end the Civil Rights Movement in 1965-1969 may not have been 100 percent successful but African Americans did make progress and are a few steps closer to being economically, politically and morally equal like any white

The African Nelson Mandela and the American Martin Luther King are important and influential heroes who made the world better somehow, in terms to fight for black people rights in their country. According to (www.dictionary.com), a hero is defined as “ the man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities”. Certainly, both heroes had the courage to sacrifice for black people with extreme power to resist the racism in the past using various ways. It is clear that the two heroes met their ambitions, but Mandela made bigger change worldwide and he was inspirational leader with severe willingness to fight for justice. Nelson Mandela and Martin King lived many similar situations which led to their great effort.

Both their speeches, “I Have a Dream” and “The Ballot or the Bullet” may have shared some common traits, but at the same time, differed greatly in various aspects. Martin Luther King’s speech, “I Have a Dream” is vastly recognized as one of the best speeches ever given. His passionate demand for racial justice and an integrated society became popular throughout the Black community. His words proved to give the nation a new vocabulary to express what was happening to them. Martin was famously a pacifist, so in his speech, he advocated peaceful protesting and passively fighting against racial segregation.

Dr. King uses metaphors to emphasize his point about the equality of blacks and whites. Similarly, Nelson Mandela uses metaphors to support his ideas. Some of Dr. Kings metaphors are, “justice rolls down like waters…” and “From every mountainside, let freedom ring.” Both these metaphors are expressing Dr. Kings movement with more passion and power. Instead of just saying we want freedom Dr. King translates these positions to appealing metaphors. Likewise, some of Mandela’s metaphors are, “The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come” and “humanity has taken us back into its bosom…”.
