The Son of Sam killer was born Richard David Falco, but was adopted and his name changed to David Berkowitz. He is responsible for shootings that killed 7 people and injured 8. The first shooting took place July 29, 1976. The two victims that day were Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti. Lauria was killed and Valenti was injured. The rest of the people who were killed were Rosemary Keenan, Christine Freund, Virginia Voskerichian, Valentina Surrani, Alexander Esau, and Stacy Moskowitz. Those injured were Jody Valenti, John Diel, Bobby Violante, Carl Denaro, Donna DeMas, Joanne Lomino, Salvatore Lupo, and Judy Placido. The killer attacked people who were in their cars or were returning home. They were all shot with a .44 caliber revolver. All the shootings took place in New York. On April 16, 1977, when Berkowitz attacked Alexander Esau and Valentina Suriani, police found a handwritten letter addressed to Joe Borelli who was the captain of the task force that was investigating the shootings.
