Richard Ramirez was an American serial killer. His full name is Ricardo Leyva Munoz Ramirez. His father’s name is Julian Ramirez and his mother’s is Mercedes Ramirez. Julian and Mercedes were Mexican immigrants. “Richard was born in El Paso, Texas.” (Biography.com) Ricardo Leyva Munoz Ramirez was born on February 29, 1960. Out of all his siblings, we was the youngest. Growing up, he was quite the loner. As a child, he had seizures and was thought to be epileptic. As a teenager, he went to Jefferson High School. Ramirez grew up with catholic parents, but as he got older, his religion changed drastically. Now, his religion is Satanism. His cousin, Mike, was in the vietnam war. When he was a teenager, he used LSD and later on he dropped out of highschool. Ramirez had worked at a hotel, but only part time. The Bedford Glossary of Literary Terms defines point of view as the vantage point from which the story is told (Bedford Glossary). Writing provides a lens through which the audience can look at life. By establishing an appropriate point of view, the author allows the reader to feel what is occurring; thus, creating meaning through what he/she writes. Skillful authors know which point of view is appropriate for the feelings and beliefs they are attempting to relay.

Because everything that Mike told Ramirez was sacred, when Mike told Ramirez stories about the torture and mutilation he had inflicted on Vietnamese women, Ramirez admired that about him. Starting to create this thing inside Ramirez. Mike even graphitised his tortures by showing Ramirez pictures of his victims. Ramirez and his cousin Mike would talk about Satanic worship while doing drugs together. Ramirez was a very rebellious teenagers which led him down the wrong path getting him into lots of trouble.

He learned from both “men” how to be a man, which ultimately ended up making him a psychotic serial killer. He was made into something that he may not have been had he not been seeking approval from these men. His criminal beginnings turned to violence in June of 1984 with his first known slaying of 79-year-old Jennie Vincow. Vincow was sexually assaulted, stabbed and ultimately killed in her home. Authorities had not yet caught Ramirez after this brutal homicide, therefore he was free to continue his spree on countless more helpless victims.

His mother, Benilda López De Casteneda, was a prostitute at about the age of twelve and his father, Midardo Reyes, was a member of the Colombian Conservative Party (something dealing with politics) where they lived in poverty and political violence.
