“You have to take what you can get when you’re getting started,” Selena Quintanilla. Born on April 16, 1971, a prodigy was brought into this world. Selena was born into the music industry. Her father Abraham Quintanilla was a part of a band when he was young, and strongly wanted his children to be musicians. She was a great singer who connected with all of her fans everywhere she traveled. Not to mention, Selena still holds the title- “Queen of Tejano.” While she was a star on the stage, she had some struggles growing up. First, Selena and her family made the band Selena y Los Dinos. This band featured her brother- A.B Quintanilla, sister- Suzette Quintanilla, and her father. At the age of ten Selena was pulled out of school to be in the band, her teachers strongly disagreed and threatened to tell the Texas Board of Education. She enrolled at Pacific Western University, taking up business administration as her major subject. Not to mention, Selena won the Tejano music award for the best female Vocalist every year from 1986 to 1996. She is the first female Latin American to make it as a singer. Remarkably, Selena received 8 awards at Lo Nuestro Awards, 34 Tejano Music Awards, Kuno's People's Choice award, and she was the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy. Furthermore, Selena has sold approximately 20,000,000 albums in 6 years. Her songs "Dreaming Of You" and "Amor Prohibido" have each sold over 5,000,000 copies. Selena's album "Ven Conmigo" was the first Tejano album to get gold status. The following year, her next album "Entre a Mi Mundo" also got gold status, which was an amazing feat. In fact, she came out with her own clothing line. In addition, Selena landed on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. Her album got turned into english, because her songs were a great hits.
