In this essay, I will be going over the musical career of Selena Quintanilla in great detail. This will include her start in music, her songs, her albums, and awards, though I'll be more focused on the first three. Selena led an extraordinary music career because of her music style and stage presence. She had an extraordinary fan base that continues to support her and her music even after death. Her music has made such an impact that people continue to love and listen to it to this day. Selena experienced music from a very young age. Her father, Abraham Quintanilla, was in a music group called Los Dinos. He had always had a fondness for music, so it's no surprise that he was very excited when he discovered Selena could sing. He went out and bought secondhand instruments and made Selena and her siblings play songs. Eventually, the children warmed up to it. Abraham opened a Mexican restaurant, Papagayo, in Lake Jackson, Texas. The children started doing gigs at the restaurant and provided entertainment to the dining guests under the name “Selena y Los Dinos” . When the restaurant closed down, the children's band didn't. These borderlands are unsettled and unclear and are consistently changing. The famous singer Rosita Fernández was born in Mexico but spent majority of her life in San Antonio performing music. Rosita was very popular in the San Antonio music scene and eventually was inducted into both the San Antonio music hall of fame and the Tejano Music Hall of Fame. Rosita’s induction into both of these halls demonstrates her diversity border including her Texan connection as well as her Mexican connection since she is considered half Mexican and half Texan.
