Selena Quintanilla was born in April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Raised in Texas with one brother and a sister. Selena was the youngest in the Quintanilla family. She was a singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. Selena began performing in her family band as a child. Around the age of 10, she became the lead singer in the band. She was known as the “Queen of Tejano”, a type of Mexican music that sounded like country music. Live Tour was 26 performances and last from 1993 to 1994. It was a great success because she won her first grammy for her album, Live!, for The Best Mexican-American Album. The Amor Prohibido Tour was the biggest tour for Selena. It was a total of 43 performances and lasted from 1994 to 1995. She visited Mexico, South America, and North America during this tour. This was when she released her last studio album, Amor Prohibido. Only one of Selena’s tour was a failure, but that was only because it got cancelled. It was cancelled because she was shot and killed by one of her fans. After Selena's concert she went to collect the money but some was still missing, so she went back to the hotel and they had a massive argument. When Selena turned to leave, Saldivar took out a gun and shot Selena in the back of her right shoulder. She was rushed to the hospital and declared dead at 1:09 p.m. on Friday March 31, 1995 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Selena was only 23 years old.
