According to investigators, the masked serial killer would break into homes at night and tie up the victims – raping the female one if present – and subsequently pillage the homes of money, jewelry, identification cards and other valuables. Some victims even told authorities that the Golden State Killer would call them up in the aftermath of the crime.
The serial killer’s crime spree took a deadly turn in early 1978 when he is thought to have shifted his attention from burglarizing homes to murder. The first victims of the Golden State Killer are believed to be Brian and Katie Maggiore of Rancho Cordova, who were murdered while out walking their dog on February 2, 1978.
The initial murders were followed by a series of additional murders and rapes in Modesto, Davis, Stockton and other San Francisco Bay area communities. His final crime, believed to be the murder of an 18-year old woman in the Southern California city of Irvine, was committed in May

The case remained frustratingly unsolved for decades as investigators eliminated several suspects via alibi, DNA testing and other methods. The FBI and local law enforcement officials held a news conference on June 15, 2016 to announce a new nationwide effort to finally bring the Golden State Killer to justice, complete with a $50,000 (£35,884) reward.
After decades of futility, the case finally reached a breakthrough on April 25, 2018 when Sacramento police announced that they had arrested the suspected Golden State Killer and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.

In the non-fiction book Trace Evidence by Bruce Henderson, the author talks about many cases that include a rapist strangler freely walking the streets of California and killing women. A majority of the cases take place on I-5, one of the cases was about Stephanie Marcia Brown who was lost after giving someone a ride and may have stopped and asked for directions. She was raped, strangled, and thrown into an irrigation ditch just off South Sacramento. Another case was about Charmaine Sabrah who was driving on I-5 late at night, since her car broke down, she asked for a ride and was never seen again. She was also raped and strangled, the killer just threw her body down a shoreline southeast of Sacramento.
Ted Bradford and Jeramie Davis are two men out of many that have had their cases overturned my DNA evidence. Ted Bradford served 14 years on a rape charge of a woman in her home with her baby. Bradford's case was the first case in Washington to be overturned by DNA evidence (Bristol). The case was overturned when a University Professor in Seattle, Washington, Jackie McMurtrie, tested the DNA found by the detectives from the Yakima County. This shows that there was a possibility that Bradford did not commit the crime.

Unfortunately due to the lack of advancement in DNA analysis, DeAngelo wouldn’t be arrested until the 24th of April, 2018, over 40 years after the first known assault by the Golden State Killer. He was 72 at the time. Due to this and his background in law/criminality, DeAngelo was able to evade capture all those years. DeAngelo's charges encompass 87 victims, 53 crimes scenes, 11 different California counties, 13 rape-related charges, and 13 murders. He admitted to dozens of other rapes, but due to the expiration of statues of limitations, DeAngelo was unable to be tried on those

However, in a higher court Simpson was found not guilty by the jury in less than twenty-four hours of debate and was released from his sentence. Although, there are

Some murders sprees can be thrilling like the ones on television but in reality there is no PG rating and the excitement is only for the killers. On the morning of December 28th 1987 in Russelville, Arkansas, Ronald Gene Simmons was arrested for the murder of two people along with four other attempted murders. He began by shooting a receptionist from his old job who was, “a young woman named Kathy Kendrick, with whom he had been infatuated and who had rejected him,” (Murderpedia).
