Wayne Gretzky is known as The Great One to the game of hockey. He was born a normal child but then grown up to be the greatest hockey player to ever play the game. Wayne Gretzky holds records that are untouchable to all. Wayne Gretzky jumped around in the NHL switching teams but he stayed at the top of the league, winning many awards. Gretzky wore the number 99 throughout all of his seasons in the NHL, which is to date the only number to be retired league wide. Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player to touch the ice, from the age of two when he started to now, he may be compared to other all time greats including Michael Jordan. Now he may be spending his time helping out around the community and becoming a role model for many kids. Wayne Gretzky was born a normal hockey kid, growing up in a hockey family. He was born on January 26, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. At the age of two Wayne was skating on a local river, the Nith River. When Wayne was four his father, Walter, flooded his backyard to make a rink for his son. When Wayne turned six he joined a league for ten year olds. In 2016 he returned to the Oilers but this time not as a player. He became partner and vice-chairman of the Oilers. During his time away from playing the game, he became the coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, but that didn’t last for long. Gretzky said that he wants to be apart of the NHL in any way possible and that everything in his life is because of the NHL. Wayne Gretzky has been around hockey for his entire life, he even coach the Canada Olympic team and brought them out of a drought.
