In Dr. Seuss’s poem “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”, the author focuses on Marxism and the effects it has on society. Marxism or Marxist criticism analysis literature in an economical view point and considers the main issues to be economical privilege or lack thereof. In the poem, it starts off stating that the Grinch did not like Christmas because “his head wasn't screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight” this seems to imply that the Grinch didn’t have proper education due to financial issues and as a result, he couldn’t think properly. The term “his shoes were too tight” also seems to suggest financial problems as normal people get new shoes when their shoes become too tight.

The whole Christmas season!”

A Christmas Carol is mainly about a old man named Ebenezer Scrooge who once had a partner named Jacob Marley, but after Marley died, Scrooge started to hate Christmas and was mean to everyone. One night, Scrooge saw Marley in his room and Marley said that Scrooge will be visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Finally, at the end Scrooge became nice and caring to prevent Tiny Tim (Scrooge’s worker, Mr. Cratchit, son) from dying, himself from dying, and the whole town becoming dark and dreadful. A Christmas Carol is a really good movie and book. Also, it gives you a sad, happy, and a scary mood.

One identical thing I found in the movie and book was that the Grinch hated Christmas. If they didn’t put the Grinch’s hate for Christmas in both the book and, he would have no reason to steal Christmas and it wouldn’t have been a very good movie.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas begins in Whoville only hours before the Cheermeister Festival. Cindy Lou is questioning the materialism that surrounds Christmas, so she nominates the Grinch as this year's Cheermeister to show that Christmas is about loving one another. She convinces the Grinch to come down from his cave and join the celebration, however, the mayor shames the Grinch in front of the entire town. This causes the Grinch to destroy the Cheermeister Festival in a fit of anger. He schemes to ruin the rest Christmas by stealing all the decorations and presents in every house in Whoville.

During “A Christmas Carol”, Scrooge's Nephew , Fred, has always had a positive personality throughout the book. In the beginning of the story, Fred invites his Uncle Scrooge to Christmas dinner. Although he was declined harshly he still keeps his happy demeanor. “But I have made the trial in homage to Christmas and I’ll keep my humour to the last.’ ‘Merry Christmas Uncle!’

An example of indirect characterization in A Christmas Carol is when the clerk asked Scrooge if he could take a day off from work and Scrooge replies by saying, “ ‘A poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every twenty-fifth of December!’ ” We learn many things about Scrooge in this passage, the first thing we learn is that Scrooge hates Christmas. As mentioned, Scrooge thinks that Christmas robs money from people. We also learn that Scrooge doesn't treat his employees well, we know this from the tone of his voice. The effect of revealing Scrooge’s traits indirectly is to help the readers understand Scrooge’s thoughts about the Christmas holiday.
