Revenge is something that is very difficult to prove as being the correct way to handle something or an awful way to handle it. Master Jacob wanted revenge and he went over the top to deal with the rogues, but I believe that it was justified. In “Master Jacob” by Howard Pyle in paragraph twenty eight it states, “So there was an end of the matter, and Master Jacob had to march off home without his pig and with no more in his pockets than he had before.” Later in the text it states, “So they bargained and bargained till the upshot of the matter was that they paid Master Jacob fifty dollars, and marched off with the goat as pleased as pleased could be” (paragraph 45). The first piece of textual evidence shows how Master Jacob lost his pig, …show more content…
In paragraph sixty six it states, “‘We’ll put him in prison right away,’ said they, and off they went to do as they said.” Near the end of the text it states, “and there was an end of number one… and there was an end of number two… and there was an end of number three… they paid a pretty penny for it” (paragraph 81-85). In the first two pieces of text evidence it shows how the rogues were going to take Master Jacob to jail. They were going to take him to jail after the times that Master Jacob scammed them out of their money. Because of their position nobody else would have had a say in what happened to Master Jacob most likely. In the third piece of textual evidence it states how the three rogues all died and they “paid a pretty penny” which is paying for something that is expensive, and in this case they paid with their lives. The reason that I believe it is justified what Master Jacob did to the rogues is because they most likely would have locked him up for life or killed him, so the only way to stop that from happening was to kill the rogues. In conclusion, Master Jacob was scammed and threatened to be thrown in prison, so he handled the situation
Also it is not smart to leave home when james should be home. And join a gang instead. Also Isaac said “ your pulling me to fast”. This Quick thinking makes Isaac knees bleed. James is very protective of his brother.but in this case he puts his brother in danger.
Even if you happen to have master that wasn’t as cruel to you, you were still a prisoner. Running away wasn’t simply an act of rebellion of a slave who wanted to get out of a bad job, it was the act of escaping a terrible, wrongfully gained lifestyle. They were fleeing for their lives and the lives of those who were closest to them. Jacobs has a two children that she was trying to get back to and who she didn’t want to end up working out in the fields as she had to. Her children were mixed raced, or “mulatto” which was the term that was coined back then for people who were interracial, but not to digress.
Revenge is a strong urge that shouldn't be acted upon because of the consequences. Understanding the influence of emotion and thought on human behavior is important for coming up with solutions to problems. Karyn Hall writes about, and goes in-depth about the topic of revenge. Revenge is self-destructive, yet it is still a part of everyday life. One theory about the purpose of revenge is to prevent certain hostile actions.
Jacobs’ choice to flee her master’s plantation exemplifies her fierce desire for independence and self-determination. It exhibits her unwavering character in the face of overwhelming suffering and the lengths she will go to secure the fundamental right to freedom. Her battle for freedom becomes a guiding force in the story, highlighting the unbreakable spirit and tenacity of enslaved people who dared to resist the harsh institution of slavery. In addition, Jacobs’ efforts to free others from slavery show her purpose to stir the readers’ morals and motivate them to take a stand against the heinous institution of slavery. She wants to highlight the injustice and violence inherent in the system by discussing her experiences as an enslaved person.
12-17) It is quite simple to vindicate Jacob by claiming that he is a sinner, but it's crucial to analyze the text and determine the motivations for his disobedient actions. Tricks and deceit, as indicated in the opening, may be unethical, but it is important to understand the purpose behind their usage, which might justify doing it in the first place. This narrative places Jacob's immoral deed in perspective by showing that he did it because he loves and respects his mother and must abide by her requests, just as Esau must obey his father's orders out of love for him.
No revenge, only bread. They were starved to that point. He even added: “One day when I was able to get up, I decided to look at myself in the mirror on the opposite wall. I had not seen myself since the ghetto. From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me.
In charge of cooking, cleaning, and raising the masters children. The house was a horrific place for African American woman. Behind closed doors there was often physical and sexual abuse that these women went through. In the book Jacobs witnessed saw and went through these abuses. She states “I was compelled to live under the same roof with him- where I saw a man forty years my senior daily violating the most sacred commandments of nature.
Revenge isn’t always the answer but some seek it when wrong is done to them. Revenge is getting back at someone, some call it “payback” or “karma”. The Crucible uses many different forms of revenge from characters that have a connection to each other or even none at all. In this play revenge plays a big part and since revenge isn’t good idea, There’s a lot of consequences that will come along with it. In Arthur Miller’s play “The Crucible” he had many characters trying to get revenge on someone else in the play, such as Abby, Proctor, and Putnum.
In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, one theme demonstrated was that revenge does not always work in your favor. Revenge is the action of causing hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. In The Crucible this theme is represented by the character Abby wanting to be with John Proctor, since they had an affair. Due to the affair Mrs. Proctor, Elizabeth, fires Abby making Abby want seek revenge on Elizabeth. In order to gain revenge, Abby accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft and being a witch.
Revenge is a real thing in today’s society. It happens every day. There are different reasons for revenge from as small, as a small child stealing a stick of gum to a drug dealer murdering a nark. Regardless, taking revenge in itself may be for the greater good, or evil.
Mistaking revenge for justice can result in horrible consequences. In the Novel Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds a 15 year old African American boy named Will has to deal with the death of his older brother Shawn. Will’s brother had been shot and killed on his way back home from a grocery store. Where they are from they lived by these three rules. Will was taught the first one when he was eight by Shawn, no crying.
Once again revenge leads to the downfall of that person who was seeking revenge. It brings the fact again that revenge is no the
Have you ever been wronged by someone so badly that you felt as though revenge was needed? Perhaps your best friend stole the woman you loved, so you felt that you needed to act and do something to get back at him. Maybe you destroy his life by starting a false rumor about him, or you get in a fight with him and humiliate him. This is just one common example of “revenge” in our everyday lives. In the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, there are much more serious things going on, involving death, murder, and wars between nations.
Revenge can be a horrible emotion; it can sometimes lead people to do horrible things. By definition, Revenge means to get retribution for a wrongdoing done to you. In my opinion, revenge is mostly caused by fear and the overwhelming feeling of payback Throughout history, revenge, or vengeance, has been altered by several cultures and religions, and even the American culture. Though it often leads one to perform criminal acts, Howard argues that it is a necessary component in the functioning of society. He points out that revenge is a threat that acts as a disincentive to undeserved violence.
Shakespeare had revenge play such a big role in his play to prove that revenge is not good. He had all of the characters end up differently to prove that. Revenge is not a good thing to base your actions off of and in Shakespeare’s play he shows
