The essay “Revenge is Sour” by English novelist George Orwell explains the negative effects of getting revenge. The author talks about his experience in a prisoner of war camp in South Germany just after the second world war. Orwell believes that there is no such thing as true revenge. Seeking revenge is human nature but in the end it just ends up causing more damage to everyone, Orwell says there is no such thing as revenge. When you feel helpless, you want to seek revenge, but once that feeling of helplessness is gone, the desire to take revenge also passes. (Orwell) He gives many examples of empty revenge in his text, the first one talks about a Jewish boy who had been hired by the American government to interrogate the prisoners being held
The author uses revenge as a clear theme, specifically in the ending of the book The Roundhouse. Joe takes revenge on his mother's attacker by killing him with the help of his best friend Cappy. Although revenge was accomplished in Joe’s mind, it did not make the characters, such as Joe and Cappy, feel any better about their situation. However, after he and Cappy, had committed the deed, they did not feel happy, it wasn't a sweet revenge at all as they both had haunting nightmares of his mother's attacker in their dreams. They are both afraid and insecure after their kill and felt nervous around almost everyone.

Revenge is a strong urge that shouldn't be acted upon because of the consequences. Understanding the influence of emotion and thought on human behavior is important for coming up with solutions to problems. Karyn Hall writes about, and goes in-depth about the topic of revenge. Revenge is self-destructive, yet it is still a part of everyday life. One theory about the purpose of revenge is to prevent certain hostile actions.
In The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Starr learns to accept herself, accept her community and to use her voice to promote justice in the world due to the relationships she has with others. Furthermore, Starr struggles to be her true self anywhere she is, in Garden Heights she is one person and in Williamson she is another but her boyfriend, Chris, helps her with this. He makes her feel comfortable enough to just be Starr around him since they met, “Ever since, I don’t have to decide which Starr I have to be with him. He likes both” (Thomas 83). Evidently, her relationship with Chris helps her to accept and be who she is because he is the first person that she feels totally comfortable with.
“On Revenge” by Francis Bacon wrote in 1625 argues that revenge should be output by the law. Revenge enters the story when Tybalt wanted to battle Romeo for crashing the Capulet party. If this did not happen in the story Romeo would have never gotten banned from Verona. He could have stayed with Juliet and sooner or later they could have told each of their families they wanted to get married or escape together. Revenge can twist a story to a harder situation between the main characters.
“The man who seeks revenge digs two graves.” - Ken Kesey This quote is saying that if a person seeks revenge then they are not only hurting the person they are going after but themselves too. After all, evil never wins. We see this all the time in Disney princess movies, the “villain” goes after the protagonist

Revenge is a real thing in today’s society. It happens every day. There are different reasons for revenge from as small, as a small child stealing a stick of gum to a drug dealer murdering a nark. Regardless, taking revenge in itself may be for the greater good, or evil.
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is a novel in-verse that is written about Will, a young boy desperately trying to get revenge on the person who killed his brother. But the book ends before we find out what happens. After the book ends I believe Will would bring his gun home and break the cycle of getting revenge. I also believe that Will's Dad was the most persuasive person in convincing Will to bring his gun home and not get revenge, this is due to Will’s Dad telling him his stories behind his death.
Once again revenge leads to the downfall of that person who was seeking revenge. It brings the fact again that revenge is no the
In "Long Way Down," author Jason Reynolds explores the devastating cycle of violence that hurts many communities. Will, the protagonist, showed us a exciting journey that highlights just how difficult it can be to break free from the vicious cycle of revenge and violence. The author shows this by telling us about how the characters were always told to get revenge, how easy it is to get pulled into the cycle, and that it makes people's vision/mind cloudy making them make bad decisions. The first quote that shows this theme is "No.3 Revenge if someone you love gets killed find the person and kill them.”
Revenge can lead to both violence and death Conflict between people or groups of people often result in revenge. Revenge is an action of harming someone as a punishment in return for what they have done to themselves or others. Violence and death are usually the result of revenge. Small Change by Malcolm Gladwell The purpose of "Small Change" by Malcolm Gladwell is to explore social media's limitations in promoting social activism. Gladwell notes that social activism requires stronger connections to create meaningful, long-term social change. Though social media provides a quick and broad platform to reach a diverse audience, its platform could strengthen commitment, proper structuring, and organization since it cannot provide a solid base to support long-lasting social changes. My judgment of Gladwell's purpose in "Small Change" is to shed light on the limitations of social media in promoting meaningful and long-lasting social change, citing weak-tie activism, participation illusion, a lack of proper structure, and
Revenge is Stinging In the words of the famous civil rights leader, author, and activist, Correta Scott King “ Revenge and retaliation always perpetuates the cycle of anger, fear, and violence.” It’s undeniable that revenge is always seeked when a person/loved one has been hurt or done wrong in some way. But can it be justified?
Revenge can be a horrible emotion; it can sometimes lead people to do horrible things. By definition, Revenge means to get retribution for a wrongdoing done to you. In my opinion, revenge is mostly caused by fear and the overwhelming feeling of payback Throughout history, revenge, or vengeance, has been altered by several cultures and religions, and even the American culture. Though it often leads one to perform criminal acts, Howard argues that it is a necessary component in the functioning of society. He points out that revenge is a threat that acts as a disincentive to undeserved violence.
