Rebekah Bommel A Ward English 11 10 May 2023 The Theologian of the Cross and the Theologian of Glory can be seen in many different ways. There is a difference between many people's lives, including mine. The book The Outsiders definitely focuses on aspects of the theology of glory. S.E. Hinton tried to come up with what the kids' lives were like in the book, but they are not the cross. In my life, I would like to believe that I live as a theologian of the cross. The Outsiders is about a group of boys named Ponyboy, Dallas, Steve, Darry, Sodapop, Johnny, and Two-bit, who are called the Greasers, and the Socs, who live on the other side of town. The two groups have had a rivalry for a very long time and fight about everything. The story goes …show more content…
The two groups are fighting over nothing. The whole story has a dark theme, of fires and fighting and making havoc in life. It's a good representation of what life is like, for people that don’t believe in God, in the way that people can easily get sidetracked by the worst things. What it means to be a theologian of the cross is to live your life and act the way that God plans us to live. In a sense, that means that you try not to do the wrong things. In the book, the kids do not live with the cross in their hearts. They live in the present and try not to think about what will happen when they are older because, to them, they live in a time where you might not live that long. The way that they live is not the theology of the cross; it’s the theology of glory. They kill, they smoke, and they do everything that they should not do. But in the end, they are just kids who are trying to get through their lives. They have to live with isolation and discrimination just because of living in an unfortunate life. They think that if people can treat them like that, they can reciprocate the feeling. In my life, sometimes I can get sidetracked by the material things of this world. You get so sucked into something that it gets hard to think about God, heaven, and all the good things about being a Christian. But the good thing about it is that I get that second chance to be able to change what I do and how I think. …show more content…
To be able to tell people that even if they are struggling, I am right here, and even though running away will seem like the right thing to do in the moment, it really is not the right thing. As they say in Psalm 22:19, "But you, O Lord, do not be far off; O you, my help, come quickly to my aid!" This is a very good example of faith that should be possessed in a time of great need. It means that if we trust that God will be there for us and be able to lean on him in hard times, we might find comfort in it. The greasers and the socs needed something to lean on, but instead of leaning on God, they leaned on their bad choices. Such as drugs and the need to make people think that they had control even when they didn’t. In my life, I’ve had a multitude of hard times, and in those times, I can say that I didn’t lean on God. But in the future, hopefully, I can find the strength to trust that even in the hardest of times, he is

Or do they simply pray, and hope that amongst all of their misery that something good will come of it and a light will be found in the end? In this book report I will talk about the book “The outsiders” written by S.E. Hinton, I will do a review of the story, the point of view, theme, symbols and my opinion about this book I really liked to read for the English class. The story is about a boy named Ponyboy who lived in a small town in Texas with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop were a gang war was taking place between two different social class people: The Socs and the Greasers. Ponyboy will learn the consequences bad acts can bring to your life in the middle of a gang war. The greasers were a middle class and not so social kind of people who liked to get in trouble and The other gang The Socs were a most of them a high class or middle-high class group of people who where they went they will always go in groups of like three or four people.
