Revised Leadership Philosophy
The traits and behaviors required to become an effective leader. To have a positive influence on others around me as I continue to hone my leadership abilities, I will work to embrace these traits and behaviors. There isn't a one-size-fits-all method of leadership. Different leaders may have varying philosophies, advantages, and disadvantages. All effective leaders, however, have a few fundamental traits. Leaders effectively communicate with their team or organization, provide a clear vision and direction, and take wise decisions. This is the reason why I chose to take this class this semester. I hope to convey ideas and instructions, as well as actively listen to and engage with others better than I do now. Another important action is to take the initiative and take charge when necessary. Additionally, becoming a leader requires a commitment to personal and professional development. Building solid relationships with team members, colleagues, and other stakeholders is also vital to becoming the leader I strive to be. One of the key insights I gained from the course material "Using the six myths of vulnerability" is that vulnerability is not weakness but is the foundation of courage and strength. Leaders who can embrace vulnerability create a culture of trust and safety, which enables their teams to be more innovative and creative. By acknowledging and sharing our struggles and failures, we can connect with others, build empathy, and foster more meaningful relationships. Assembling your armor is another course material that emphasizes the importance of resilience in leadership. Leaders should be able to manage their emotions and bounce back from setbacks, failures, and disappointments. Building resilience requires a growth mindset, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn from
1. I define leadership as one’s ability to unite a diverse team of individuals to achieve a shared goal or mission. I find my leadership style to be backed by three main tenants; these include compassion, commitment, and trust. The foundation of my philosophy is to care for those who work for and with me and to have a genuine investment in their well-being. I believe a good leader should want to get to know their people beyond just their job title.

Being able to incorporate communication, organization, honesty, positivity, and empathy. These values form the foundation of my leadership philosophy guiding my actions and interactions with team members.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
What is my leadership philosophy? Over twenty years ago, I raised my right hand and took an oath of office by which I swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. Through experience we develop and hone our leadership proficiency. I will set goals in the following three areas, to continue my growth and serve our team as a leader in the organization. 1. Leaders inspire commitment, and know they cannot command it. I will describe a compelling image of what our future could be like.
Leadership is a privilege and is only as effective as the team involved, with each member doing their part. My leadership philosophy is built on three pillars that have guided me throughout my life: integrity, hard work, and dedication. 1. Leadership to me is the effectiveness of one’s ability to motivate, elevate, and direct their followers towards a goal through respect, integrity, and communication. Throughout this essay I will show some of the lessons I have learned and how my leadership definition and selected traits will allow me to effectively lead myself, lead others, and lead the Coast Guard. 2. My first experiences as a true follower would have been my freshman year at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).
Leadership Philosophy. a. Set the Example. Every day, I strive to uphold myself to the highest standard. As I look myself in the mirror every morning, I accept myself as that standard. Stretching beyond physical appearance and performance, the discipline within my character is forever recognized and reflected upon.
This course has also expanded on different aspects of adaptive leadership such as: disequilibrium, diversity, running experiments, and the four KLC competencies of civic leadership. Two of the biggest takeaways I have gained through course are being able to tell a technical problem from an adaptive problem, and learning of the four KLC competencies. My ideas of ideal leadership were very basic and elementary when I first began this course. I was very stuck on trait theory and the functional approach as most people think that leaders are born and not made, and that by completing tasks a leader would do then you are looked at as being a leader. I believe this is due largely to my playing of competitive team sports as this is where trait theory and the functional approach can be largely seen for a lot
In my leadership development plan, I will start by reflecting on myself, experiences, and accomplishments. No leader has all of the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful; as a result, most leaders have multiple development needs (Hughes, 2015). There are many leadership traits that play a major role in leadership development. Leaders should have the intelligence to articulately solve problems effectively. Taking courses and reading books are good ways for leader to acquire foundational knowledge, but new skills will be acquired only when they are practiced on the job (Hughes, 2015).
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
Most importantly, since the contents of this course are largely different from what I have learned in my major courses. I regard this as a rare opportunity for me to take on some new challenges, and I would like to take a chance to develop my leadership skills. Before attending this course, “leadership” is a word quite far away from me, and I only have some basic understandings of it. And I found out that most of my thoughts I had about leadership are very different from what it really is.
In this course I discovered to better understand the beliefs of others and understand how what you do can impact others. Self-awareness is a huge part of it is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self-Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment. Motivating others requires making others feel understood, leadership is not just a cliché about leading by example or other vague tenet, it involves more interaction and engagement. Generally speaking, a leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. There are many different styles of leadership and the majority of them are very effective, but despite these different approaches, all good leaders share a handful of characteristics. So, what are these qualities that make a good leader? We are going to take a closer look at some of these traits including, but not limited to, good communication, the ability to delegate and a strong level of commitment to see how these qualities can help to make someone a good leader.
To be a successful leader I also agree that one needs to have certain characteristic and skills. A leader needs to be able to simple lead, as you have stated. They need to direct and guide people to fulfill shared goals. Communication is also another huge skill. A leader needs to be able to clearly communicate, build relationships, motivate others, inspire others, and be a role model to create a positive work environment and culture that will accept change and innovation in the company.
