Moore told police she believed Wuornos had been killing people due to the accumulation of new items and cars, but did not want to question Wuornos any further fearing she would become an accomplice to the crime. “Moore later showed law officers where to find the gun. Grooves in the gun were similar to markings found on the fatal bullets, though an expert testified that the particular grooves were fairly common and could be found in other weapons” (Wuornos v. State, 1994). The gun evidence alone would not be sufficient enough to
The people mentioned in this article, such as Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo and Marilou Danley (Stephen Paddock’s girlfriend), feel shocked that anything like this could even happen, as do I and most of America. Marilou Danley described her boyfriend to be, “a kind, caring man” (Winsor and Jacobo 2017), she believed him to be incapable of hatred and hurting people. I believe that this event will change security measures at hotels and will cause people to be extremely diligent in crowds and sceptical of people’s motives. Also, I believe that no matter how many regulations the government puts on guns, criminals will find away around them and use these weapons for harmful activities. When this investigation is over I hope that the government will enforce laws more proactively and help bring closer to the families involved in this tragic
This law allows police and officers to stop blameless people and frisk them. This law usually targets youth and people of color and this is extremly important reasons to stop it. A first example that shows that the law is not legal is that tons of people who get stopped are innocent. The second example that shows the illegality of the law would be that it is a discriminatory and racist law. However, other people have different opinions, other people think that "stop and frisk" help protects people from people that look suspicious and may risk the safety our society.
Giuliani, who said her performance was an attack on the police officers who protect her every day. Like many, he feels that because she is someone of standing and fame, she is heavily dependent on the police to keep her safe and therefore should not be turning her back on them. The “Black Lives Matter” campaign rides heavily on the issues of police brutality and the shooting of harmless African American people just because of the color of their skin. Much of their fight is to defeat racist ideals within law enforcement and
If I was defending my client against a robbery conviction and the main evidence was the clerk’s eyewitness testimony, I would tell the jury that it is not a completely valid testimony. Being robbed, the clerk was in a state of panic and distress, which could cause him or her to not clearly see who is robbing them. And without camera evidence it is almost impossible to validate if what he/she is true. Eyewitness testimonies shouldn’t be taken as main evidence because who is to say that the testimony is 100% true? The human mind is good at blaming others for mistakes that they want answers to.
They select their victims wisely and ensure they were not likely to tell, such as the child molester who would abuse his girlfriend 's daughter because she was a “wild kid”. To the general public, these criminals were seen as normal and decent members of the community. However, the most powerful revelation from the video is how likely society is to reject the notion of a sexual
She is hesitant to seek help, due to the lack of support the system provides to rape victims that are not minors, but she knows all these effects could have been avoided if she went to therapy. Therapy and support should be provided to rape victims because without support , victims run the risk of depression, without the proper help, rape victims can be a risk to themselves and to others, and without the proper psychological help, substance abuse rates increase. When discussing the topic of rape, depression, a common effect,
Battered Women Syndrome indicates to the court and to the community that women are not as strong as men and need some extra cushion/protection when dealing with big issues such as murder. Women alone will not be able to make their case and win. They will not be able to handle the consequences solely as they are, so women must have something that they can fall back on and depend on for protection. As a woman, I feel very strongly about this argument in particular against the justification of Battered Women Syndrome as self-defense. How can we take a step forward into one direction when the other foot is stuck in gum behind
The police are always late and innocent civilians are getting killed so we should all carry a firearm. Carrying a firearm isn’t the answer but it will definitely reduce the rate of criminality because of fear. “Don 't set yourself up for victimhood. Be proactive. Protect your family.
Our law enforcement sometimes judges people on their race or ethnicity. The police decide who they consider suspicious, that discretion is routinely exercised through race. People believe some shouldn’t be allowed in places because of it. The color of our skin daren’t portray the lives that we live on a daily basis, that is what’s wrong with today’s society. Police disproportionately target minorities as criminal suspects, skewing at the outset the racial composition.
She explained that although the situation is less than ideal, it is perfectly legal to be fired by one agency and hired by another. A portion of the community has started a petition because they don 't want to be policed by Zeneth Glenn. How can the citizens of Ozark, Alabama expect Zeneth Glenn to serve and protect the citizens when he broke the rules as a corrections officer and used a snake to intimidate and torture Trawick? We can 't say he allegedly used the snake because he was already fired for his actions. Now they have given a him a gun and badge, and car...
Tasing Terence was the right thing to do when he had gotten back to his vehicle, and when it looked like he was reaching in it. For officer Betty Shelby, I do believe that charges should be pressed, and that she should not be able to continue police work. Due to the fact that she has taken a life only under suspicion of a weapon. When an officer shoots their gun, they do not shoot with the intent to kill, but they shoot to stop the opposing threat. The threat in this case was never truly identified as a threat, thus making this shooting unlawful.
Violence can trigger emotions that cannot be undone which can lead to regret. Wes’s father wanted to teach Wes that violence is not tolerated especially a lady. For the other Wes, he never had a father to guide him to make the right decisions or reprimand when he was wrong. This is one of the key factors into why the other Wes got into trouble with violence and drugs. Even though the author did experience trouble with violence and drugs, he realized violence would lead to more violence.
In the article, “How Police Training Contributes to Avoidable Deaths” author Seth Stoughton shares his experience as a previous police officer as well of the experiences of others and states how the training of police officers “is part of the problem” (Stoughton 2014, pg.2) with police violence of present day. Police are trained to respond to every situation with the mentality of encountering a dangerous situation, and that hesitation can end up deadly for the officer (Stoughton 2014, pg.3). Police are also trained to be afraid (Stoughton 2014, pg.3). They are shown videos where officers are killed but aren’t given the chances of an civilian to officer violent interaction happening, which have gone down in the past years (Stoughton 2014, pg.5).
Henderson was not justified in punishing his daughter this way because, Coretha could have gotten kidnapped, hurt, hit by a car. But in the fifth paragraph the article says, “While Henderson stood next to her daughter at the intersection, a passing motorist called police with a report of psychological abuse, and an Oklahoma City police officer took a report”, so in other words technically it was extremely dangerous. Basically that is why it was not justifiable.
