Co-sleeping is a hotly debated topic between mothers and scholars alike. Should children and infants sleep with their parents or should they sleep in their own space? Many people believe that co-sleeping is vastly superior and has numerous benefits, short-term and long-term, while others believe that co-sleeping is dangerous. A large divide between those who are for co-sleeping and those who are against it comes from cultural differences in the Western world and everywhere else. I will be arguing that co-sleeping is natural and that parents should be encouraged to co-sleep with their children by pediatricians and parent educators.

Sleep inertia is defined as the feeling of grogginess and disorientation due to awakening from a deep sleep. This can cause inconvenience to those who must perform a task immediately after waking up from a napping period. B. Napping for too long or taking a nap late in the day may interfere with the duration and quality of nighttime sleep. It can hinder a person’s ability to get enough sleep at night; it makes it difficult for the person to fall asleep as well. Victor displays and describes certain symptoms of sleep deprivation: “Exhaustion succeeded to the extreme fatigue both of body and of mind which I had endured…when I place my head upon my pillow, sleep crept over me; I felt it as it came and blessed the giver of oblivion” (Shelley 82). His extreme exhaustion is the result of years of stress concerning the Creature. As Victor’s life progresses he begins to long for sleep and the peace sleep brings with it. Robert Walton comments on Victor’s “Yet he enjoys one comfort, the offspring of solitude and delirium; he believes that when in dreams he holds converse with his friends and derives from that communion consolation for his miseries or excitements to his vengeance” (Shelley 201). During the day Victor is tortured by the thought of his creation, and the ramifications that have followed.
Stand Up for No Homework Ever notice that students are extremely tired during the day and severely lacking energy? This can be caused by students not getting enough sleep, or time to exercise and do other activities after school. Students have to stay home and do homework all night, and even stay up late to finish. Because of this, students are not getting the recommended amount of sleep per night and missing out on other activities. A problem that society needs to take a stand for is homework because it creates extreme stress and depression, makes students stay up too late, and causes them to miss out on their social and family life.
Frank Bruni dives into the topic at hand by clarifying a prerequisite of what teens need in order to be healthy. The topic to which Bruni is responding is how many children are not getting the adequate amount of sleep a night. He speaks of how children are overworked and unprepared. Therefore, the lesson learned would be the young do need sleep; unfortunately, it can be quite impossible when there have been so many responsibilities placed upon our youth. Likewise, teenagers and children are constantly pressured to be the best and to take the extra step forward in the competitiveness of the world.
A good night’s rest is needed to do well in school; however, homework is hindering students’ growth. I will first say that my sleeping patterns are not at all constant. In fact, they seemed to bounce all over the place. I can confirm that everything that I dreamt about correlated with my thoughts during the day. So, to me, it seems obvious that my dreams are being based off of the cognitive approach to dreaming. University students including myself time and again lay off sleep for other happenings such as studying, doing homework or even just staying up for the night with a friend.
Staying up late to do homework could result in harmful habits and health issues caused from sleep deprivation. In addition many studies have brought up that the relationship between students and homework is toxic even though homework should be helping the students succeed. Countless teachers suggest that homework should be dependent on whether or not the student chooses to do it or not. This not only allows them to be incontrol of their grade, likewise teaches students responsibility and consequences/rewards for your choices and actions. I see it all the time within classmates because most of them don’t sleep every well or at all most of the time and I can tell because the affects it does to their body and the way the perform in school. I believe that we should all have a regular sleep schedule espically because we all have school and we need sleep to succesed.
